Warren, Howard C. resided at The Clare at 55 E. Pearson, Chicago, IL. He was born in Sterling, CO on April 28, 1920 where he was raised on a farm. In 1939, he entered the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. In August of 1942, Howard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served with distinction. He saw extensive service as a fighter pilot and served in the Solomon Islands, Guadalcanal and Midway operations while achieving the rank of Captain. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps he started his own business in electronic engineering, another business involved in the construction of large vessels used in atomic energy plants, utilities and manufacturing, and acquired the Riley Company, which designs and constructs boilers for utilities and other related business. The Riley Company, in which all of Mr, Warren's companies were folded was ultimately listed on the American Stock Exchange, In 1979, The Riley Company was sold to U.S. Filter Corporation. Since then, Mr. Warren has been a private investor involved in many businesses including at least five major ranches in Argentina, Arizona and Montana. Among other investments were Western Cities Broadcasting, a group of eight radio stations, and Burnham Broadcasting Company, a group of five network affiliated television stations. Western Cities Broadcasting was successfully sold to Nationwide Insurance. Burnham Broadcasting Company was successfully sold to the Fox Network. He was also an investor in a group of 125 Blockbuster franchisees which were sold to the parent, Blockbuster Inc. Mr. Warren is survived by five children, Nancy Craven, Sally Bachman, Judie Warren, James (Carla) Warren and Robert (Mary) Warren, he also has 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Sorry to hear of his passing. I worked for Howard starting in '57, at SCAM on Irving Pk.Rd. until my retirement from "Panalarm" in '95.
Many fond memories...especially from the early days. God bless him and keep him forever.
