Tuite, Rev. Howard A. 84, Catholic Chaplain to Provident Hospital since 1993. Ordained May 9, 1954 for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Fr. Tuite served his whole ministerial life in the African American Community. Pastor emeritus of St. Felicitas Parish, pastor of St. Leo the Great Parish, Associate at St. Carthage Parish, Holy Angels Parish, and St. Martin de Porres Parish. He was the epitome of the phrase "Walk the Talk". He never drove a car. He walked the neighborhoods in which he lived and loved. He was a true friend to the poor and the homeless. Through his ministry he gave the less fortunate of society a message of hope and the dignity of knowing they were truly children of God. Son of the late Mary A. Tuite (nee Bowman). Fr. Tuite will lie in state from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., on Sunday, February 9, at Corpus Christi Parish, 4920 S. Martin Luther King Dr. in Chicago. A vigil service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be on Monday, February 10, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Most Rev. Joseph N. Perry, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, will be the main celebrant and Fr. Kenneth J. Fleck will be the homilist at a funeral Mass for Fr. Tuite at 12:00 p.m. at Corpus Christi Parish. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Corpus Christi Food Pantry, 4920 S. King Dr., Chicago, IL. 60615. I first met Fr Tuite at Holy Angels and we met again at St Carthage a kinder. gentiler man one would be hard pressed to find. We lost a true man of God and friend. Well done good and faithful servant. well done.

I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see my friend and long-time mentor Father Tuite this past July and attend Sunday Mass (Feast of the Holy Family)at Provident Hospital as his "guest." The respect he had and received from the "disinherited" of was awesome. I'm saddened, and yet I thank God for the 40 years I knew him, and his gift of selfless love. He was a true servant of Jesus. Peace, be still!

I remember Reverend Tuite from St. Leo's at 7747 So. Emerald. He went out of his way to know everyone by their first name and loved everyone that he met. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
