I first met Mr. Taslitz at Cerritos College (circa 1971). I took a course in US History that he taught. I remember so clearly to this day how he made history come to life. He didn't just teach history; he told a story. A great story! As he described historical events, he would actively become the characters he was teaching about and often held the class spellbound and hanging on his next words. At the end of the class period many of us were wanting for more and enthusiastically waiting for his next class! I have frequently told friends and family members about Mr. Taslitz and his unique teaching style. Having acquired an AA, BA and MBA, I can honestly say that Mr. Taslitz was truly the best of the best of all of my instructors. In my mind, he could be a model by which other educators are measured.
While I am grateful that I met Mr. Taslitz I regret that I never got the opportunity to share my thoughts with him personally. Hopefully, this might bring a little joy to those who knew him best. Rest in peace my friend!

Dear Arlene,

I was so sorry to hear about Howard. As I think back of all of the colleagues that I have had over the years, there is no one that I admired more than Howard. He was a great teacher, a great human being, a great leader and a good friend. I have told many people about his abilites and sense of humor. He will always be one of my idols. I am sorry that I did not get to talk to you at the service, it was very nice.

Mr. Taslitz only touched my life once, at the commencement speech he gave in May 2006. I graduated with my A.A. He was a wonderful speaker and one could tell of his passions for learning. I am glad to have been one of the many whom he has touched, probably without him ever knowing it.

Dear Arlene and family:

Our hearts and prayers are with you as you celebrate Howard's life and mourn his loss. May God hold all of you, as He does Howard, in the palms of His hands. He was the best teacher Cerritos College ever had and certainly the best I ever had. I have felt his influence on my life since that first summer night in 1965 when I entered his classroom. Unlike most of his students, I was able to continue to benefit from his advice and great sense of humor long after my student days were over and he was the best adviser I had during my years on the Board. As the college celebrates its 50th year, it does so knowing that Howard Taslitz took his stand and made his mark there. And what a mark it was. Gold Bless.

Dear Arlene,

Was sorry to learn of your loss of Howie and offer sincere wishes of condolences to you and your family. Didn't all these years go by much too quickly, but isn't that what life if all about?....my strongest rememberance of your husband is that I was still at Roosevelt, you all had graduated, but Mr. Taslitz was my teacher (though I do not recall the subject) and it was strange to call him "MR." since you were dating at the time and we were friends...They are nice memories and I know that you both had a fine life together. May his memory be for a blessing.

Dear Arlene and Family:

I was so saddened to read of Howie's death in today's paper. My mother and I have so many wonderful and loving memories of Howie. I virtualy grew up with "Pudge" and Lily and Leo were second parents to me. Howie was a very special guy and we will always remember his great sense of humor, his kindness, and intelligence.

Please accept our heartfelt sympathy and condolences. Howie will always have a place in our hearts.
