Dear Bob and family,

My deepest condolences on the recent death of your father. After reading his obituary and the heartfelt online comments, it was clear that he was an amazing man. I couldn’t get over the fact that he was married to your mother, Harriet, for 69 years! That's wonderful and must be some kind of record for longevity! And the fact that he lived to age 92 is also quite remarkable. In the midst of the sadness of your loss, I trust that your family can celebrate the life of an extraordinary man. My thoughts are with you.

I know it doesn't sound right to say you had a nice time at someones wake, but I did as it was a celebration of Mr. Kaplan's life , a life which was well lived and admired by so many.

Mrs. Kaplan, Bob and Butch your dad was the best. He was a great friend, neighbor and yes even my first employer. It meant alot that he always would have a job for me when I was home from high school or college. He even included me in the Central Decal Christmas parties and was kind enough to even make sure I got a Christmas bonus just like the fulltime staff.

So many depended on him to provide their living and he was always there to help and I watched him build his Central Decal into a great company.

I have so many fond memorories of being with the Kaplan's at their home on 62nd Place or even visits to Punta Gorda or the cottage. We had lots of fun and also shared life's sad events with the loss of Judy and Charleen.

Yes Howard Kaplan certainly was a wonderful person that will live on in my heart everyday.

I was blessed to have been his friend and to have known the Kaplan's. I wish you all the best in your time of loss!

I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Howard's passing. I know my parents were close to Uncle Howard and Aunt Harriet. Growing up I remember the parties at my house. I could hear everyone laughing from upstairs. There seemed to be a very strong bond with the "Group" that meet at these parties. Later in Punta Gorda, seeing my parents also ment having fun with the Kaplans. Even today Megan can not believe she went water skiing in the Peace River with the alligators. We all through as long as Uncle Howard thought it was okay, then it must be okay. I always through of Uncle Howard a the peaceful strong silent type. I miss the times in Punta Gorda with my parents, Uncle Howard and Aunt Harriet. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kaplan family.

When I was a small boy he was the strongest man on earth! As time passed I learned his smile was one of the greatest gifts I could receive. His real strength came from his love. His love of family, his love of friends, his love of life. He helped so many with so much genuine joy - I have served many years in the military, but have yet to meet the measure of the two men I admired as a small boy, my Dad and Uncle Howie.

Good-bye to Uncle Howie and thoughts and prayers to Aunt Harriet and all the family - Butch, Bob and kids. Can't think of glorious Dayton Lake without Uncle Howie coming to mind. And his first employee - Jim Murray!

I did not know you well and then only as a child. With childish instinct I knew you were special and loving. My heart goes out to your family, my cousins. I believe that you are in a better place.

Grandpa Kaplan, I am sorry to see you leave us. You epitomized what every man should be. You were a caring, giving, kind, decent and an extremely hard working man.

Uncle Butch, ‘everybody’s’ Uncle Bob, Butch, Jenny, Steve, Katie, Erin and Grandma Kaplan, I am very sorry and wish I could be there. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Thank you Uncle Howie for loving me and being there after God had taken my father. I will always cherish the memories we shared; be it staying in your home, taking trips to the lake and nights in the ice cream store, or you being my date at my school's "Father and Daughter Dance". Even though we may now be separated by space, as we have been by miles, you will continue to be in my heart, thoughts and prayers, today and everday. I hope you are now peacefully resting with Charlene and Judy thoughout eternity.

Love, Judy
