As a young actor on stage and comedian everywhere else, I was always watching other characters for their inner sincerity and believable substance the characters they played. I just found out that Howard was an actual DJ as a younger man....and that made me smile. My life in the 70's was graetly influenced by many a tv comedy and drama episode....the were several that stuck in my memory as a teenager...'Johnny Fever' was 1 of them.
I thank You Mr. Hesseman, for inspiring a younger me, and for making a piece of art that is worth watching again and again.
GOD BLESS you.

Howard Hesseman was so funny as dj Johnny Fever, also good playing teacher Charlie Moore in Head of the class, and the commercial director in Sunshine Boys and a hippie in an episode of Dragnet in the late 60's.
R.I.P, you are missed and never forgotten.

Another one taken away too soon. Howard, most of your fans choose to remember you as ‘Dr. Johnny Fever’ on ‘WKRP’, but after WKRP, in the mid 80’s, you were just as great with the rest of the cast on ABC-TV’s ‘Head of the Class’, where you played the cool, caring, loving, understanding and reasonable teacher! I won’t ever forget when you, the cast and crew, flew down here to Houston to spend the week at the NASA’s Johnson Space Center and Mission Control, to tape and film the episode involving a couple of your ‘students’ from your class, pertaining to a project you had given them to work on! How cool and a great episode that was. It was super cool and fun to see you guys visiting around H-town, eating out at different restaurants and chilling out at other places, stopping to visiting with us, your fans! Such fun and great memories for me and my friends in our mid to late twenties during the late 1980’s! Oh and yes, I’ll never forget the bit ‘D. J’ part, when you helped to host “Motown’s 25 years Anniversary Special” on tv, back around 1983 to ‘84, I believe it was! What fun that was to watch! You were a class act and a great talent, sir! Thanks for the laughs. Prayers and blessings to you, your family and friends. RIP sir! - Mike E. - Houston, Tx.

Howard Hesseman a.k.a Johnny Fever you will be dearly missed. I loved watching WKRP in Cinnicnati. My favorite episode has to be the Phone Cops episode, when Andy was trying to convince Johnny that there is no such thing as phone cops. Truly a great episode, that and the Thanksgiving turkey episode.

RIP Dr. Fever was the coolest. WKRP was such a good show and Howard was the best part. My favorite episodes were the testing how drinking alcohol would affect him while he was working. He got better not worsr Loved The Thanksgiving episode too. He had to wait for the weatherman Les Nessman to read the sign Happy Thanksgiving
As it flew buy. Dr. Fever was so funny waiting for Les to read it.
So sorry to hear of his passing.

You made WKRP what it became -- a classic TV show and much of the laughter was due to your character, Dr. Johnny Fever. Thanks for laughter. The classic episode I still remember was when a few of you broke into an office, and one of you says, "I think I am going to pee my pants". Still remember that and of course, the turkey episode. Mr. Carlson's classic line "As God is my witness I thought turkeys could fly". But, you made WKRP. Dr. Johnny Fever lives on in our collective memory. I remember also the episode about you and God. Rest in peace. And oh yes, when you get up there in heaven -- say BOOGER !!!

Howard was my older cousin. Though I was the adopted child that broke several of his hand made wooden soldiers, out of youth & ignorance? He only wanted me to get roasted at the stake, a little :). Grabbing his 22 rifle from under the bed, in Aunt Edna's House? More serious :(.
I will miss him :(.

WKRP was the best show of the 70s. So great in fact, I still have the tee shirt. And wouldn’t ya know it, I had a day job on a morning show as the “Sportsgoddess” in Santa Cruz for years- you taught me well(& AM radio had their first Ramones and Radiohead bumper music!). This is very sad news. Find Jerry, HH- he’s waitin’ for ya. “Johnny Fever” was the only DJ brave enough to play the Dead on AM! Love you, bless you, and thanks for the laughs.
