It was by chance that I learned that the beloved Dr. Herb Rubenstein has passed. I can still see him coming into the hospital room with his lab coat flying and a big cigar in his hand. A more loving, caring Dr. and I have never met. Haven't seen him in years but found this by accident and wish to pay respects for my daughter and myself.

Dr. Rubinstein was my physician in the early 70's when Dr. Manny Ross insisted I change doctors. Dr. Rubinstein was a physician who truly had a passion for healing. The Saturday after Thanksgiving ('77) I was rushed to an ER in Chicago Heights. My parents called Dr. Rubinstein who in turn grabbed another physician from Loyola, drove down to the hospital and took over my care. Once I was stabilized he had the other physician ride with me in the ambulance back to Loyola. I can still see him walking his brisk pace, cigar in hand and lab jacket wide open. May his memory always be a blessing to those who knew and loved him. He will truly be missed. My sincere condolences to Jane, Emma, Clara and family.

Herb was an engaging and warm person who always added his intelligence and wit to any gathering. Our daughters were delighted to find another person who so graciously shared their enthusiasm for Jane Austen. His memory will be cherished.

When I was the librarian at West Suburban Hospital, I frequently spoke with Dr. Rubinstein when he called in search of complex, interesting, or difficult information. He was always charming, erudite and often funny. I am sorry he is gone.

We are grateful to Dr. Rubinstein and his wife for raising a wonderful, talented daughter Emma. She now shares that talent with us. She lives in Idaho now and is an amazing violin teacher.

Dr. Rubentsein was a great man as well as an excellent doctor. After being refered to him by our primary doctor, he diagnosed, treated and cured my husband's illness. While other doctors suggested he go to Mayo clinic, Dr. Rubenstein researched and was on the case from start to finish. It was always a pleasure to see him on our visits. We will always remember him and are greatful for the opportunity to meet him. We have never met a doctor like him. His sense of humor and dedication was tremendous. May he rest in peace. He is truly missed.
Our sympathy to the family.

Herb was both my teacher and my friend. I valued his knowledge and wisdom. Eventually, I helped in his care a number of years ago. He was a wonderful person and physician.

Herb was a generous, faithful loving man. I met him often with my sister, Gert, and always enjoyed his company. I admired his dedication to his religious faith and pray that the Lord of All will reward him appropriately.
