Helen Brokenshire Obituary

Helen A. Brokenshire, 90, of North Tonawanda, died Saturday (April 25, 2009) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Brokenshire was born in North Tonawanda on February 28, 1919 to Joseph and Magdelena (Kolb) Kornaker. Helen was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda. She enjoyed bowling and gardening. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Helen enjoyed cooking as well as her dog, Dolly. Helen was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish. Helen was predeceased by her husband, William L. Brokenshire, who died in 1997; and a grandson, Michael W. Matikosh.Mrs. Brokenshire is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Samuel) Matikosh, Carol (Thomas) Williams, Mary (Alfred) Thompson; sister of Katherine (the late Sherwood) Zebulske, the late Joseph (Marie), the late John (Audrey), the late Frank Kornaker, the late Elizabeth (Melvin) Meyers; sister-in-law of Adeline (Conn) Murray and brother-in-law, Edward (the late Gloria) Burro; grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of 16; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday from 1-5:30 PM at the Wattengel Funeral Home, 307 Oliver St., North Tonawanda, NY, where funeral services will follow. Private interment at Acacia Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094. Online guest registry at www.Wattengel.com.
