My belated condolences to the Heftman family. Harry was a truly unique Chicago legend with substance whom I had the pleasure of knowing as a frequent visitor to his business over a 20-year span where the location was close to my places of employment. Thank you very much Harry.

I interviewed Harry a couple of years ago, when he was helping out at a friend's restaurant because he couldn't just stay retired, without people around him. What a nice man, and I will remember him an an upcoming blog I'm writing about Harry,The Hot Dog Man. Rest in Peace...you deserve to.

My husband and I seen Harry at least two times a week at East Of Eden. What a wonderful person. He always would ask us if we wanted any ice cream and then would bring us some. His memory was sharp, never complained and always had a smile and we would talk of many things. He told us about his wonderful family and always said it was his loving family and friends that kept him going. Everyone that seen him would say hello, shake his hand or even sit with him. He was the kindest person. We loved Harry and we will miss him greatly. Please accept our sympathy.

Years ago, late sixties, early to mid-seventies, we lived in an apartment in the city in a building owned by Harry. He was a prince of a man, and that didn't stop with his being a landlord, he was a prince of a landlord, as well. His heart ran on kindness, and his smiles were from that heart.

I had the pleasure of knowing Harry during 2008/09 while servicing SLA. Harry was such a kind and considerate individual. He was such a hard worker, attended his business every day. He always treated people with the utmost respect. Such a beautiful person. God be with you Harry.

I worked across the street. With so many choices for food, sometimes you just needed a good dog, and a warm smile. Harry delivered both. The best anything we can hope for is when we are called home, is they say "He was a good man." Harry was a good man. Rest in peace Harry.

Harry was missed when he closed the Restaurant at 300 W. Randolph. He will always be remebered as family within the Bell Family. His restaurant was the place where you could go for the best breakfast and lunch. I absolutely loved the fact he continued you working after he closed the restuaruant. He will be missed.

Retired Chicago Police Officer

My condolences to the family on the passing of "Harry"!

Harry was a Gentle Giant amid most customers who frequented his eatery. He was one of the most soft spoken, sweetest persons I have known. He treated everyone so kind. Those in his employ, were almost like family, and he treated them as such. I knew Harry since 1972. As a young Chicago Police Officer, now retired, I had the privilege of spending time with him on many occasions. To stop for lunch, a quick cup of coffee, to take a report or just to say hello! For Thirty years, I enjoyed our visits. He was especially proud of his children, and spoke of them often. You will be missed Harry!
God speed!
