Harry O. Hefter, 94, beloved husband of Marilyn Hefter, née Mora, happily married for 71 years; loving father of Steve (Janice) Hefter, Janice (David) Blum, and Richard (Tracey) Hefter; cherished Popi of Justin (Lauren) and Shira Hefter, Stuart (Jeanne) and Derek Blum, Kayla, Sam and Sophie Hefter; adored great-grandfather of Stella and Scarlet Blum and Michael Hefter; Harry was preceded in death by his brother David Hefter and sister Lilly Brill. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Elvie and Shenna for their loving care and devotion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to StandWithUs, www.standwithus.com. Funeral service Friday, March 15, 11:00 AM at North Suburban Synagogue Beth El, 1175 Sheridan Road, Highland Park. Interment following at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. The Mataya family would like to express our deepest condolences to the Hefter family. Harry and our father were best friends for over 70 years and our father often spoke of the friendship and times spent together. A true gentleman had passed and the world is a lesser place for it.

I was very fortunate to have met my cousin Harry a few times. I still remember the last time I saw Harry a few years ago, when me and dad met him and his son Steve for brunch at Walker Brothers. Harry was fascinated by how much I put into researching our family connection and he helped me fill in some details only he knew. I will always be grateful for getting that chance to meet with him that day. I wish to send my condolence to Marilyn, Steve, all of Harry´´s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren for their loss.

Growing up on Greenleaf St, and spending hours and hours at the house, over many years with Harry and Marilyn, have left an imprint on my heart. He was ALWAYS so loving and sweet and kind. He gave the best hugs and always had a smile on his face. And, when he met our son at Richie and Tracey's engagement party he welcomed him as if he was his own. What a wonderful man.
