Dear Brien and the Comerford Family,
I wanted to express my deepest condolences to all of you. I just found out about Judge Comerford's passing over the weekend. I worked in the Chief Judge's Office as a seasonal employee during my high school and college days. He was a kind and gentle man who had the respect and adoration of all who worked with him. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
My heart goes out to all of you. (My uncle, Judge James Ryan, recently passed away in November. The loss is very fresh. However,it is comforting to know that they live on in our memory and will keep a watchful eye over their loved ones.)

Dear Family, We have never met, but I am one of your distant cousins. I wish to express my sorrow at Judge Comerford's death. My great grandfather George Comerford brought his parents, William and Honora Comerford from Wexford, Ireland in 1840. After 1 yr in NYC, they took the train to Dresden, Illinois, where nearby George founded Minooka. He was postmaster, had the general store and the eventual train station, all built out of shipping crates. My dad, Joe was a precinct committeeman. His cousin, George, was city manager of Joliet, and his son, George was the county auditor. I know there has also been a fqamous Judge Comerford in New York. I guess politics and communith service are in our blood! I have been a Carmelite priest for 31 years, teaching high chool for 31 years. Anyway, I wanted to assure you of our prayers. In Carmel, Fr. John Jay Comerford, O. Carm. [email protected]

To Brien and the Comerford Family,
Although there is nothing I can say to alleviate the sorrow you must feel, I would like to express my deepest condolences. I never had the honor of meeting Judge Comerford, but I am eternally grateful for his kindness and generosity towards my brother, Tony. Just one look at his warm, gentle smile has convinced me that he touched the lives of many, many others. You will be in my thoughts.

To the Comerford family,
When I started out working for the county, I had the honor and priviledge of working in the Chief Judge's Office. To be eighteen and just starting my career he allowed me the opportunity to watch a true gentleman lead the Cook County Court System. He was an incredible person who cared about everyone that worked for him. He taught me so much that I continue to work in the system that he introduced me to. He was everything that a judge, a father, and a man should strive for. He was a very blessed man.

The Comerford Family
I was so sad to hear about your loss. I worked for the Chief Judges Office from 1985-1985 and got to know Judge Comerford well. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word. Brein and I had early morning converstaions up in the office that I enjoyed.
He will be missed.

My father, Walter R. McCollom, worked for Judge Comerford for many years, as his personal bailiff. During those years my father would talk about the Judge, they had a deep mutual respect for one another. My father was so proud of the work that he did under Judge Comerford. When the Judge retired, so did my dad, at the age of 80 years old. My father died in 1999. I am sorry for your loss and our prayers are with your family.

Thirty nine years ago this July we adopted our son. Judge Comerford was our judge for this. I will always remember his smile at seeing our son, then less than two months old. I know that this was a run of the mill minute for him but it has been remembered by me all these years. My thoughts are with you, his family.

My condolences to Judge Comerford's family. I'm sure you do not know, but he had a profoundly positive impact on my life. Judge Comerford was a good friend of my father, Russell Bundesen. Just a couple of short years after my father passed away, Judge Comerford gave me an opportunity to work in the Cook County Public Defender's Office while I attended Law School. I learned a tremendous amount about the law and life while working there, and forged several life long friendships. While I did not continue my law career for other reasons, I owe Judge Comerford a great debt of gratitude for launching my professional career. He was a man of great class, elegance, wisdom and patience. I know my father was proud to be his friend. God bless the Comerford family.

I mourn the loss of Harry G. Comerford, a faithful public servant. I worked with him when I was President of the Chicago Council of Lawyers, as a member of the commission he appointed (the Special Commission on the Administration of Justice in Cook County) and now, as President of the Chicago History Museum, I note his place in Chicago history. Judge Comerford was dealt a very difficult hand when, during his service as Chief Judge, Operation Greylord was disclosed. Without hesitation, he appointed Jerold Solovy as Chair of the Special Commission, and I served as Chair of the Special Commission's Task Force on Judicial Conduct and Ethics. With the invaluable assistance of his lieutenant and successor as Chief Judge, Donald P. O'Connell, Judge Comerford adopted reforms almost as quickly as our Special Commission could recommend them. In appreciation of his work, the Chicago Council of Lawyers evaluated him positively in connection with judicial retention. Judge Comerford will be missed, and we all can be grateful for his courageous leadership during difficult times.
