I was shocked and saddened to hear this news. I was lucky to have Mr. Pausz (Gus) as my teacher at Oakview Junior High and even luckier to have kept in touch with him and Deb for over twenty years since I graduated from there. He was a teacher and friend who definately made an impact on me. I'll always remember his humor and advice. He was so easy to be around.
One of my friends and I even created a comic book, (Paus, not Jaws) in which he was the main character and a game (Monopauly) that centered around him and the things that were a part of his life.
I have nothing but fond memories of Mr. Pausz (Gus).

I was truly sorry to read of Gus' premature death. All five of our children graduated from Oakview/McCracken and benefitted from not only his artistic expertise, but his gentle and genuine demeanor. We still have some of those projects in our home.
Gus has been in my thoughts lately and I meant to track him down to tell him. I have never been artistic. When I was making appliqued sweatsuits for my daughters years ago, I asked Gus to draw a pattern for me. Which he promptly and graciously did, so I could finish my project. He told me that I could "learn" how to draw. I thought he was just being kind. Presently, I am a one-on-one teaching assistant at Middleton. When I accompany my second-grade charge to art class, I thoroughly enjoy it and I am actually, "learning" how to draw. Granted, it is at a second-grade level, but all the kids in the class say that I am the best. I always think of him and his inspiration, not only for my children, but for myself.
My husband, Bill, subs in the district and saw Gus in the Spring when he was going to White Pines. He commented on how dedicated he was to his beliefs and to children.
It was a privilege to know him and we all feel honored to have been a part of his life.
Please know that you and your family are in our prayers. We will pray to Gus to help him earn his wings.
With sympathy,
Joan and Bill Shermach and Family
