Gaston, Jr., Gordon Ray

Gordon Ray Gaston, Jr. was born to Mr. Gordon Ray Sr. and Dr. Blanche P. Gaston on September 21, 1961. Mr. Gaston grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood located on the south side of Chicago. Mr. Gaston graduated from Lindblom Technical High School in 1978 at the age of 16 years old. He continued to persevere and achieve many goals after the untimely death of his father in 1978. Mr. Gaston enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation; where he would serve and develop his natural talent in the area of mathematics and engineering. He would continue to pursue a career in electronic engineering after being Honorably discharged from the Army. He would obtain an Associate's Degree from Olive Harvey College in 1983 and a B.S. in Electronic Engineering in 1987 from Jackson State University. His first job was with Illinois Bell where he was promoted to Supervisor of the Tech Department. He would soon expand his skillset by entering into a 5 year apprenticeship program with IBEW. He would complete the program and become a Journeyman where he joined IBEW Local 134 in Chicago and 697 in Indiana. He would work for various companies for more than 20 years until his death on November 9, 2021. Mr. Gaston was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Ray Gaston, Sr. and Dr. Blanche P. Gaston. From his life he leaves behind his partner of 34 years, Linda Vaughn and his precious daughter Rachel M. Gaston (born 1991) who was the love, pride and light of his life. In addition to his daughter, Mr. Gaston leaves behind stepdaughters, Laverne and Suzzette Chambers; his brother Attorney Garry (Alicia) Gaston of Florida, his sister, Dr. Gina Gaston of Chicago, nephews Garry Jr. and Matthew and one niece Onyx. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends. Mr. Gaston was a caring, loyal and giving man who was loved by most all who met him. He was an avid reader who's dimpled infectious laugh and smile will be missed by all who knew him. His family and friends miss him every day but take solace in knowing that he is at peace in the arms of father God.
