My condolences to the family. I did not know Glen, but I would hear Karen talk about him at work, and he sounded like a fun, and loving man. I'm sure the pain is very strong, but try to remember he is in heaven now, smiling down on all of you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Don't quit when things go wrong as

they sometimes will. When the road

you're trudging seems all uphill.

When the funds are low and the depts

are high and you want to smile, but

have to sigh. When care is pressing

you down abit, rest if you must,

but don't you quit. Success is

failure turned inside out. The

silver tint of the clouds of doubt.

And you can never tell how close

you are, it may be near when it seems afar. So stick to the fight

when you're hardest hit. It's when

things go wrong that you mustn't

quit.

My deepest sympathy goes out to

you, Karen and your family.

The Burtons are my second family in the US, since my "real" family is about 6000 miles away. They embraced me with open arms and I'm really grateful for that. Glen was a great guy and an example for me. He would spend hours and hours talking to me and I remember the day he came to my school for lunch just to talk. A very kind and giving person. We will be missed from the bottom of my heart. Not only Glen, but Karen, Julie, and my dear Jon will be on my prayers. Glen's in heaven, finally in peace.

Remember I'm here for whatever you guys need.

All my love,

Karol

It is a sad day, indeed, for those of us on the JH Pancreatic Cancer chat board. Glen was a thoughtful soul who shared his thoughts & experiences so generously, in order to help those of us who will follow in his path. May Glen rest in peace, and may his family continue to feel his love.

I met Glen and his family through the John Hopkins message board. Glen and his family shared alot of information about what my husband will be experiencing soon. This information was invaluable. Thank You so much! I had a personal memorial for Glen Friday night and I continue to pray for him and the family. Ann_in_MS

Glen was always positive and helpful to others and seemed like such a 'great bloke'. All this in the midst of his own battles. To all of us on the Pancreatic Cancer Chat Board he made a big impression and will be sadly missed.

You happen to have chosen a very appropriate day to have Glen's service.....in Australia at least, we have "Remembrance Day" where we honour the fallen heroes.....that's Glen.

(11th of the 11th at 11am the country stops for 5 minutes silence and prayers)

Love and prayers for Karen and 'Juliebell' and all his beloved family.

I met Glen through the Johns Hopkins Pancreatic Discussion group. Although I only knew Glen through his words, those words stay with me, and I have made copies of so many of his messages. He wrote brilliantly, with kindness and wisdom, about what it is like to be a person first and a person with cancer second. He showed me what it is to be brave -- will always understand now that being brave isn't about a lack of fear, but rather is about accepting fear, discussing it, and trying to remain thoughtful and warm and humane even when everything is frightening and hard. What grace he had! He educated all of us, no matter how sick he was, about pain management, about how to cope with illness. He taught us about procedures, but even better, he taught us about life. He was open, courageous, questioning, and witty. He shared bits and pieces of his life with us -- his love of his wife, his love of his children, the lessons he learned from coaching children. He brought us joy and compassion. I will miss this great man. Claudia

Dear Karen, Julie, Jon & Family,

I am so sorry for your loss of Glen. He was a wonderful person, and the words he spoke of you will never be forgotten. He truly loved you all so dearly. He will be missed. I will carry with me the words of encouragement that he taught me. He taught us how to live with this beast. Remember always, he lives on in each and everyone of you. He may not be here in body but his spirit and guidance lives on in all of you. God Bless and take care. Love, Theresa

Karen, Julie, Jon, Jennifer & families:

Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.

Our thoughts & prayer are with the whole family who undoubtingly has suffered a great loss. The joking & the laughter will surely be missed. I have know Glen for just a short time but feel I have know him for a lifetime. I have shared so many things with his wife Karen with whom I have worked with & been a best friend to for the last 6 years.

Karen, Jonathon & Julie, I wish there was something we could say or do to take the pain away. But he is at peace now after so many months of suffering.

I will always be here for all of you.

Love,
