Gertrude Shumpert Obituary

“BESSIE” GERTRUDE SHUMPERT

GASTON--Services for Bessie Shumpert, 89, of Gaston, will be held at 3pm Sunday, November 20, 2005, at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow at Dunn’s Chapel Methodist Church cemetery alongside her late husband, Robert Shumpert and dear brother-in-law, George Nordan. The funeral will be conducted by Reverends Lloyd Ackerman, Tom Atten and Chesley Floyd. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3pm Sunday prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, grandsons-in-law, and Lee Dykes.

Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of service.

Mrs. Shumpert died Friday, November 18, 2005. Born in Lexington County, she was the daughter of the late Houston Oliver and Emily Arrien Shull. She was a member of Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was survived by her two sons, Heyward and his wife Janie, Lynn and his wife Becky; two daughters, Ora “Skeet” Nyberg and Linda and her husband Frank Shipley; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was also survived by a brother, J.W. and his wife Clester; four sisters, Ethel Nordan, Gladys Timmons, Ruby and her husband Leon Lown and Ruth and her husband George Wilson.

She was predeceased by her husband Luther Robert Shumpert, a brother and sister-in-law Lonnie and Roselle Shull and two brothers-in-law, George Nordan and Horace Timmons.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to either Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church or Dunn’s Chapel Methodist Church. The family would like to take this time to thank all her family and friends, her dear roommate Annie Hilliard and her family, Dr. Brent Powers, Home Health Inc. and the staff at Lexington Extended Care for their love and support during her illness.
