Nieukirk, Gerald "Jerry" Louis

Gerald "Jerry" Louis Nieukirk, 81, of Washington, IL passed away at 8:20pm Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. He was born December 30, 1940 in Peoria to Louis and Teresa (Palumbo) Nieukirk. He married Vivian (Gerdzos) in Chicago on October 7, 1967. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2003. Surviving is three children, Wendy (Brian) Monahan, Douglas "Doug" (Erin) Nieukirk, Amy (Kevin) Stanford; nine grandchildren, Brendan, Nolan, Loralei, Teagan, Lilly, Bryce, Donovan, Conall, Laney; three brothers, Robert (Linda) Nieukirk, Marvin Nieukirk, Larry (Sherri) Nieukirk; two sisters, Sharon Peek, Teresa Nieukirk, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, David John; brother-in-law, Harold "Leroy" Peek; and sister-in-law, Sharon Nieukirk. Jerry was a graduate of Washington Community High School Class '59 and United States Army Veteran. He worked as a banker at Harris Bank in Chicago, retiring as Vice President in 1995. He was a St. Louis Cardinal fan, avid collector of sports memorabilia and other collectables. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, IL, Knights of Columbus, Washington Historical Society, active on several Incarnation Church committees and a generous donor to numerous charities. He loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed. A mass will be held at 11am Saturday, January 15, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The mass will be live streamed thru the funeral home facebook page. Visitation will be held two hours prior to mass on Saturday at the church from 9 to 11am. Private burial will be at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Crestwood, IL. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Richard L. Owens Hospice Home and Incarnation Catholic Church in Crestwood, IL.
