George Wisnosky Obituary

Mr. George J. "Wingy" Wisnosky Jr., age 75, of RR 2, Lacey Street, Laceyville, Pa., passed away at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., early Thursday morning, Oct. 5, 2006.

He was born in Exeter, Pa., on Feb. 8, 1931, the son of the late George J. and Anna Tokach Wisnosky Sr. Growing up in the Wyoming Valley he was a graduate of the Pittston High School.

After high school, he served his country with the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War.

Working for many years for General Motors in Linden, N.J., he worked on the assembly lines, where he assembled luxury cars. While working for General Motors, he was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, Local 595. After his retirement from General Motors, he moved to the Laceyville area.

He was a member of the St. Joachim's Roman Catholic Church in Meshoppen, Pa. Other memberships included being a loyal and very active member of the Rought Hall Post 510 American Legion in Black Walnut, Pa. He served as a past vice commander, past commander, and past sergeant of arms. Wingy also was very active with the post's weekly bingo, and collected ads for the annual cow pie bingo. For many years, he placed flags on the veterans' graves for Memorial Day at many cemeteries in the Laceyville and Meshoppen areas. He also marched in countless parades and served as an honor guard for many graveside services. He was also a member of the 40 & 8 and a member of the Endless Mountains VFW Post 3583 of Mehoopany, Pa. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Charlotte Stine Wisnosky, who passed away on Nov. 8, 1998; a stepson, Clyde Barnes, who passed away Jan. 21, 2001; and a granddaughter, Kristen Lee Barnes, who passed away on Aug. 17, 2002.

Surviving are two stepsons, Mike Barnes of Meshoppen and Carl and his wife, Linda Barnes, of Laceyville; a brother, Joseph Wisnosky of Kissimmee, Fla.; a special granddaughter, Kara Barnes of Conshohocken, Pa.; and nine other grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two special friends, John Stahl of Laceyville and Sandy Sharer of Laceyville.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville. Immediately following the calling hours, members of the Rought Hall Post 510 American Legion and the Endless Mountains VFW Post 3583 will conduct military services. Interment will be at a later date in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the American Legion 40&8, Nursing Program, in care of Rought Hall Post No. 510 American Legion, RR 1, Box 1833, Laceyville, Pa. 18623.
