Gary and I were room mates and long time friends. We worked together played together. He was very supportive of my art making and we shared a lot of record albums. Spencer Allen and myself were sad there was no memorial. I´d love to talk with anyone who cares to share some anecdotes, particularly his kids. My phone (773)255-4930

I just saw this obit. I am very sorry to hear that Gary passed. I went to Lakeview High School and he was in the year ahead of me. I never talked to him because I had this huge crush on him, but he did sign my yearbook even though he didn't know me. My condolences to the family.

I attended LakeView HS with Gary. We were pretty good friends then. He had a great sense of humor. Lost track of him over the years but I'm sorry to hear of his passing. Sounds like he had a good and interesting life.
Thats all we can hope for.

I hadn't seen Gary for many years but he was a really good friend of my brother Spencer and he was around a lot. It was like having another brother. Sad to hear of his death and hope his family share many happy memories of him.

I'm so sad to hear of Gary's passing. Gary was best friends with my sister's first husband and so was always around back in the 70's. We were both 'tag alongs', with the couple, and in some ways back then, he felt like an older brother to me. When the marriage went south, Gary was still a friend of the family. Such a sweet, supportive, funny guy. I was so glad to reconnect with him on Facebook and realized his sense of humor was still the same as always. I never mentioned Gary, I always had a crush on you. My condolences to his entire family on this great loss. RIP, my old friend.

I worked with Gary many years ago at B.L.U.E.S on Halsted Street Chicago. He was such a character and very strong! He would lift himself up and over the bar whenever he needed to go out on the floor. Hard working....made long nights fun. We won't ever forget him. Gary was part of our crew. Blessed peace to all who miss him.

I am deeply saddened at Gary's passing and hope the family will recover quickly and become stronger knowing that so many people were touched by him.

Gary was great friend, faithful husband, wonderful father, and just a darn good man.

I met Gary in 1965, first year of high school at Lake View. We quickly became close friends and remained so until this time. Like Joe Dale (above) said, Gary and I and another good friend (Spencer) had many entertaining times at the Gramaphone, especially doing air drums when the Small Faces song Itchycoo Park was playing. Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

It is always sad to hear of a past friends passing. Yet again, it stirs the memories of the good times we had from the old neighborhood. St.Clements was the glue from which we were bound. My graduation class picture still hangs on the wall and I look at it often and reminisce about the parties and dances we held. John and Linda, Ben and Jay, Dick and Joe, Greg and Bill, Ed, Lynnore, Rozanne ( what a crush I had on her), the names go on and on. Thank you all for the neighborhood connections. Gary's family will have joy in knowing how many people have fond memories of him. Best wishes to all who feel his loss.

I first met Gary (& Greg Binder, the inseparable duo) in 1969 when our record shop Gramaphone opened on Clark Street. Gary, Greg & Ron Vitello were among the several neighborhood guys to come into the shop. We became fast friends. Even though we lost contact, FB reunited us some years back & our friendship was renewed. Always great memories.

I knew Marty and Larry.in more past years than I want to admit, and connected with Gary a few years ago on Facebook. I got to know him as a friend. I will miss our texts togetyer and wish I had connected with him earlier in life.

I was very sad to learn that Gary had passed away. I haven´t seen him since our graduation from LVHS in 1969. Yet I hadn´t forgotten him all these years later. I first met Gary in study hall. I was a transfer student from Long Island, NY in the fall of `67. We struck up a conversation, one of many, and he made the process of being a new student less stressful. We remained school friends until we graduated and then we went on with our lives. And though all these years have passed, I am still grateful that we met. He was just a very sweet person and really nice guy. I am sad for his family and hope that their shared memories of the time spent together will help them find peace and comfort in their hearts.
Sincerely,
Irena Czumaj- Szesny
