Gabriel Mooney Obituary
Age 77, passed peacefully at home after a long illness. From Skryne, Co. Meath, Ireland. Beloved husband of 50 years of Catherine (née Hickey), Gneeveguilla, Co Kerry, Ireland, loving father of David and Anita [Dane] Robinson. Doting Papa of Molly, Quinn and Declan Robinson and their labradoodle Arlie.
Graduated University of College Dublin 1970. Practiced Plastic and Hand Surgery at Advocate Christ and Little Company of Mary Hospitals. Past President of the Illinois Society of Plastic Surgeons. A devout Catholic, family man and volunteer. Predeceased by parents Tommy and Bernadette Mooney, brothers Ray and Tex [Ann]. Survived by many brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews.
Visitation Thursday, August 24, 2023 9 am St. Isaac Jogues Church, Hinsdale followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

My condolences to the Mooney family! I worked side by side with him many times thru the years at Christ Hospital. He would always pull out his cassette tapes and play Irish music and Christmas carols all year long. Very good memories of him. He will be greatly missed.

Gabe was a very accomplished Bridge player and golfer. He will be missed by all the Bridge players in Downers Grove, Burr Ridge and at my Indian Head Park home. Was always fun to be with and around him. May his soul RIP.

My most sincere and deepest sympathy to Catherine and the Mooney family. I worked for Dr. Mooney as a transcriptionist many years ago when he had an office in Oak Lawn. I have thought of him often through the years and will never forget the kindness and generosity he and Catherine showed me. I was so sorry to see the notice in today´s paper and sad to hear he had a long illness. I wish peace to him now and to those that loved him most.

My condolences to his family. I had the opportunity to work side by side in Surgery with him. He always made you feel comfortable especially when he played his Irish tunes while working. He will be missed but will remain in memory. Eternal rest grant unto him.

Our deepest sympathy to the Mooney family. A neighbor and close friend was always willing to help in any situation. Keep the sunny side up was a favorite saying of his. As long as we have known him, never once do we remember him saying a negative word about anything or anyone and as many times as we played golf, never a swearword crossed his lips. Gabriel, keep the sunny side up, you will be missed.
