Fred Pagenkopf Obituary

Fred and Jane, our hearts go out to both of you on your loss...the last year has been hard on the oldest generation of men in your extended family. May your memories be full of good times past and the legacy of hope created by strong family ties.

Last year, in April, I heard Helmut remark on Luverne's patio that the days were getting longer in Glen Carbon. It is a time

Uncle Fred had a huge hearty laugh, and he was also sweetly sensitive.

I will always treasure in my imagination, the thought of Uncle Fred

going outside before dawn to enjoy the big meteor show, as he told it.

What a man of the outdoors, always enjoying God's creation!

My Uncle Fred always made sure to send me a Christmas card every year. The last one I received from him in 2001 was by far the most beautiful. It will be a cherished memento. I remember how Fred doted on my boys the last time we visited Minnesota and stayed at the farm. They watched him bale hay and then they made a fort in the field with the bales. It's too bad we lived so far apart and didn't get to spend more time together. Our condolences to Fred and Jane.

Fred was always there when we visited. It seemed like he would always be there .... By example, he taught me how to live a long life. We'll all miss him very much.

I'm Lila's younger sister, the baby of the family. When Fred came to visit, I couldn't wait for him to sit down so I could sit on his lap. I was seven years old at the time. Luverne (Pasenow) Hanson

I remember when Fred first came to our house, courting my sister Eleanor. He knew he'd never get her if he didn't win all of us over, first. He did.

I always enjoyed visiting with Fred when he would show up for morning coffee...sometimes he would even have a story to tell...we'll miss him.
