I had the pleasure of knowing Frank when I lived in Oak Park in the early 80s.
While our politics differed, Frank was always a gentleman. I only found out about his passing today.

I am deeply saddened at the loss of this great man. I have always loved the way Frank treated me and my dad like family, and I don't think a Coke will ever taste quite the way it did when Frank poured me one at the bar when I was a kid.
Thank God for the blessing of being in the world with a man who showed with his heart everything that was good and right with the world.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Frank and his family. His pub was truly a second home for Chicago's West Side Irish. If there is a barkeep's hall of fame in heaven, Frank is being inducted as we speak. You were and always will be a "gentleman and a scholar" Frank. You will be missed, but never forgotten.

Thanks Frank for the memories of O'Neill's! It was a sanctuary, a quiet, safe and classy corner of the world wear I first realy appreciated a great tasting cocktail and the company of my friends. What a classy man we got to know over a bar! My condolences to all his family, take with you his heart!

many happy memories stopping in O'Neills on North Ave to see the organ player and the many wonderful pics of the Irish Countryside - and Frank always with a big smile greeting a group of young girls asking what we'd like to drink and saying "eh, you are all nurses?" Not one of us a nurse but we always remembered him and his welcoming ways. Happy memories. Thanks Frank O'Neill.

To the entire O'Neill family, we offer our most sincere condolences on the passing of Frank. It has been my pleasure and privilege to know Frank and each and every one of you. He was unique and popular, fun and witty, determined and caring. He brought me home to you like a stray puppy, and well, you know what they say about "feeding strays," that you'll never be rid of them. Forgive the intrusion, but who would ever want to leave?
Frank taught me so much, and took me on to work in the back office for Ireland. Everyone felt at ease with Frank, and enjoyed time spent with him. His pride and joy was his family, and with good reason - for you each gave him something about which to be happy and proud. He often said he didn't deserve a wife as good as Ann, and that if it weren't for her, not one of the children would have turned out so well. When it came to the grandchildren, well he was just over the moon!
Your loss is a great one, and we pray that God comforts each one of you. May God bless you always.
Our deepest sympathy,
Bill & Janice McCann

My children (Gary & Nicole) and I will always have the fondest memories of the O'Neill's when they would stay at my Mother's (Hazel Schultz). There were always smiles on each & everyone of the O'Neills. I'm sure you have some wonderful memories of Mr. O'Neill to get you through this difficult time. My deepest sympaties go out to you.

A kinder, more honorable man may never have graced our now empty halls. We shall laugh a wee bit quieter, tell tales a bit simpler, smile a slight smaller and sing a bit softer. But we will do these things. Because he would've wanted us to. Ireland divided shall never be free. We still hear it Frank. Godspeed gracious champion. Love always, The Kinahans
