Francis Fortman Obituary

Fortman, Francis "Fran" Passed away peacefully at JourneyCare Hospice, Barrington, IL on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Fran is survived by his wife Lee of 68 years; his 4 children, Jackie (Val) Valentino, Mickey (Steve) Brown, Danny (Meg) Fortman and Susie (Buck) Kleiner; 6 grandchildren, Nicole (Brian) Steward, Kristen (Bob) Seidel, Nick Brown, Kayla (Ernie) Downing, Jake Kleiner and Cody Fortman and 6 great-grandchildren, Nile Steward, Noah Steward, Sienna Steward, Owen Seidel, Isla Seidel and Abby Downing. Fran served in the United States Army from 1946-1947. He married Lee (nee Fallon) on May 12, 1951. Fran owned Acme Autobody for several years and went on to work as Plant Manager for Service Plastics Company in Elk Grove Village, where he retired in 1993, after 37 years of service. After retiring from Service Plastics, Fran continued doing autobody work well into his 80's. Fran loved farming, woodworking, working for the Village of Lake Barrington and taking care of his horses and most of all, Fran loved his family. Fran served as a Plan Commissioner, Zoning Board member, Village Trustee and videographer for the village of Lake Barrington. In June of 2017, Fran was honored for his longtime service to the Village of Lake Barrington, at their June 2017 Board meeting, where he was presented a plaque and President Richardson read Resolution 2017-R-09 "A resolution of appreciation recognizing Francis "Fran" Fortman, for his many years of valued service to the Village of Lake Barrington and its residents". Fran lived in Lake Barrington for 50 years and built the home, he and his family shared, which was fondly referred to as the "Fort". Kind, gentle, charming, wonderful, angel, fixer of anything and hardworking are just a few words and phrases his family and friends used to describe Fran. He was an amazing man and touched the lives of so many, many people. He will be missed so much by so many. Services will be private. Arrangements were entrusted to Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home.
