Frances was a true inspiration. We met every week to work out at her health club. There were days that she wasn't feeling up to it but still came down and put her time in, and never complained when she wasn't feeling 100%. She was a joy and will truly be missed.

I was the new girl in October, 1963 at Hookway Elementary School. I was in second grade and scared to death standing at the front of that classroom full of strangers. Mrs. Brown, as she was known then, was the teacher and my knight in shining amour. That's what she did: put children at ease and bring out the best in them.

I spoke with her last Thanksgiving and she gently admondished me by saying '... next time you're in town, call me when you get in, not on your way out". And that is what I intended to do this weekend.

Please know what an impact she had on children. I still sing 2 of the songs she taught us for an assembly. Happy, innocent songs about spring. That is how I'll remember her.

My sincerest sympathy,

Judy Moore

The world will be a sadder place because of the passing of Frances. It was a privilege to work with her on the Board of the Academic Decathalon. Her smile, her friendship, her sense of humor, and most of all, her love of children will be missed.
