Floyd Thom Obituary

Floyd H. Thom, 83 passed away November 17, 2012 at his home in Anchorage surrounded by his loving family.

Floyd was born January 15, 1929 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He graduated from Coeur d'Alene high school on May 27, 1947. He loved sports and was their star catcher on the baseball team, the captain of the boxing team and also a running linebacker for the football team.

Floyd met his wife Marilyn in their junior year and they were married right after graduation which they enjoyed for 64 wonderful years.

For a while, he worked for the Ohio Match sawmill- in the woods during the summers and in their mill during the winter months.

In 1954, he decided to move his family to Alaska, "just for a short time" but never did move back to the "lower 48". Floyd worked for 25 years for Lease Construction Co and helped to build many of the large buildings in the Anchorage area. In his free time, he enjoyed hiking, duck hunting and fishing with his son and family and friends, teaching his two daughters to drive cars and shoot guns, bowling of course, and dancing with his wife.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Anchorage; son, Richard, Wasilla; daughters Barbara and Joann and her husband, Greg, all of Anchorage; grandchildren, Autumn, Shane, Jaime and Tara; great grandchildren, Hallie, Allie, Aubrie, Autumn, Zollman, Max, Remi, Tori and Sebastian; one brother, Richard Thom, Spokane, WA; and several nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arlene.

At this time, the family would like to give thanks to Providence Hospice. They were so compassionate, caring, and friendly, it really helped to have them care for and aid us in this trying and sad time.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the Laborer Local 341 Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Floyd's memory to Alzheimer's Research.

Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Alaska. An online guestbook can be viewed at www.alaskacremation.com
