Father Farrell was a good man and a great priest of high integrity, who treated everyone with respect and fairness. I never had Father as a classroom teacher, but he taught me by example. His family and community can be proud of him for his career and vocational accomplishments. Thanks, Father Farrell. May you rest in your well deserved peace.

Thoughts and prayers to Farrell's siblings and our parish of St. Paul the Apostle in Gurnee, IL. Fr. Farrell was a great servant for his Carmelite brethren and our parish family over the past 20+ years. My family enjoyed the countless conversations and times we spent with him since we joined St. Paul in 1992. Fr. Farrell will be greatly missed.

Father Farrell will forever be remembered by the Wessel Family. His goodness and kindness to all of us during the challenging times for Tom Wessel will be treasured. Opening the church doors for the annual Concert For Life for 15 years and always so very genuine and fun to be around. I met him as a Priest and cherished him as my friend. I will miss him, but will celebrate his incredible life and grateful that he is peaceful at last. Farrell....life very well lived.

Father Farrell epitomized "the trifecta" of Carmelite life: Prayer, Community and Service. He was one of the unsung heroes of The Order: his business acumen and dedication to the often long and tedious hours of tending to its financial matters were only matched by his pastoral concern for all of the lives that he touched. He will be missed at "The 141st Run for The Roses" at Churchill Downs this Saturday, May 2nd.

Fr. Farrell was a great teacher and mentor to me and many other students. He encouraged me as a young teacher to grow in many ways. I always appreciated his "hands on" approach to ministry. He was humble and supportive, but always with a quick wit. I will cherish years with him as a student, as a faculty friend, and my most recent visit with him in June 2013. Prayers of support to Fr. Ray Clennon, Fr. Bernhardt Bauerle, other Carmelites, Farrell's family, and all the students and parishioners he encouraged during his great ministry. God's love and peace!

Fr Farrell was a large part of why my wife and I joined St Paul while living in Gurnee. Even after we moved to Antioch, we continued to attend 7:30 mass at St Paul's to hear his sermons on every day life. Our prayers and thoughts are with him and his family.

What a great Man. He was my principal at DeSales for the 4 years I was there. He was a big influence in my life. He always had time to talk no matter how busy he was. I've thought of him often over the years and was lucky to have him officiate my wedding in 1990. We will miss you Fr. Farrell.

April 29, 2015

On behalf of my late parents-Robert and Catherine Dietmeyer, who were original members of St. Paul's and helped out in many ways there over the years-and the rest of our family, please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of Father Farrell. He was a class act who obviously dedicated his life to the Lord and who is now up in heaven with Him. May he rest in peace.
