As good friends of the boys I am thankful to have known Mr. Griffin. Whether it was helping me out of a legal jam in New Orleans, counseling me on a business idea, or just giving an uplifting smile and greeting, Mr Griffin influenced me greatly over the years. As a leader with great warmth and humor, his influence and goodness will long be felt. Hopefully we can impart such goodness on our kids and continue to bring it forward. God Bless you all and deepest condolences from afar. With love~

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Griffin family. Having known "Mr. Griffin" through Steve and the other Griffin star athletes, he was truly the #1 BG Bison booster for his kids; and their peers! His charm and wit will truly be missed.

So sorry to hear of Gene's passing. We were in a cardiac group back in the late 80's thru the 90's at Harper College. We enjoyed his wit and knowledge about law, religion,& his competitive sportmanship playing volleyball. My condolences to his family.

Mr. Griffin was my neighbor and my friend. We would argue about Susan Hayward vs Rita Hayworth and he would grab his movie encyclopedia! We stayed up late watching old movies. I would joke with Ms. Griffin that he was MY husband! She would say 'if I left him on your porch with a bow on him, you would bring him right back, honey!'
I will miss him so much.

My uncle Gene was a religious man. He was also a raconteur, a rabble-rowser, and an enthusiast of classic films with a penchant for humming their soundtracks and other melodies of generations passed. One might say he was a man of contradictions. He spoke his mind about what he felt was important, but was interested in listening to others' point of view.
Uncle Gene's ability to offer a different perspective and to laugh was contagious. He was a very influential figure to me growing-up.
I remember him as a coach, a different kind of dad, and a comedian- I think he instilled these things within his sons too, which also were very important influences on my life.
After moving to Los Angeles, I had the semi-annual occasion/opportunity to catch-up and spend time with him here (in Palm Desert). He was always genuinely interested in what was going on in my life. He was also a great fan of his children and grand-children, and kept me apprised as to all of their goings-on.
He loved life, his family and his wife: Evidenced so clearly in his will and ability to overcome all of the adversities of multiple by-pass surgeries, etc.
He will live on through his dedication to his wife, my Aunt Elena, his brood of boys, their wives and his grandchildren.
He is a character who will never be forgotten.

I am very sad to hear of Gene's passing. We were both alum of Quigley and St Mary of the Lake Seminaries, although from different eras. We met through Cardiac Rehab at Harper College, and enjoyed many laughs and some volleyball too.
