Esperanze served as the School Nurse at my school (Gladstone Elementary) for many years. She was present (in late 1992) for the initial meeting with officials from the School of Nursing at St. Xavier University, where plans were established to submit a grant request to the US Government. In August of 1993 we received a grant of $1,000,000.00 to establish a Family Nursing Center at Gladstone, one of the first such centers in the country to be located inside an elementary school. I am certain that Esperanza's involvement in this initiative was instrumental in us eventually receiving the grant.
My condolences go out to Esperanza's family and friends.
