Erskine Moore Obituary
Moore, Erskine C. age 84, beloved husband of Ida Grace Moore and cherished father of Zaverie Grace Moore, loving brother of Yolanda Whiteside and LaVerne Johnson, passed away Mondy, August 14th, at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Born December 6, 1921, in Chicago, IL, he served as Captain, Commander and Beat Representative Director during his long career with the Chicago Police Department. He is a decorated veteran of the Second World War and retired with the rank of Colonel from the United States Army. Erskine was a member and Deacon of Beth Eden Baptist Church, at 11121 S. Loomis in Chicago. Services will be held there on Monday, August 21, 2006. Visitation at 10 a.m. Funeral at 10:45 a.m. St. Jude Service, followed by a Homegoing service at 11 a.m. Interment follows immediately at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, near the intersection of Route 53, and Hoff Road in Elwood, IL (8 miles south of Joliet). Visitation is also being held on Sunday, August 20th, from 1 to 8 p.m., at A. A. Rayner & Sons Funeral Home, 318 E. 71st St., Chicago, IL 60619. 773-846-6133

I had the priveledge to serve under Commander Moore in the 002 Dist. during the mid "70"s . As a Viet-Nam veteran I felt at ease under his command. He left a great impression on me and I am sure many others. Rest in Peace Commander, your mission is accomplished.

I had the priviledge of working for Capt. Erskine Moore in the 6th District. Besides my dad Police Officer Carl Willis, he was one of the few real men I have ever known and admired whether they worked for CPD or not. He was not only smart but he was fair to all. If there was ever an African American PoliceMan to be honored and admired Capt Moore is he. My heartfelt sympathy go to his family and Thank You God For Blessing Us With this Fine Man. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen! Good Bless You Erkine Moore!

A very good man! I knew your husband and father in the 1970's from the 006 District (Gresham)and he was everything the Sun-Times obituary said: a courageous, intelligent, warm gentleman who had the respect of the CPD officers. I am sorry for your days of grief now, and all I can offer are my prayers of gratitude to God for a life well-led.
