As the first anniversary of your passing approaches, I am still in shock that you are gone so young and that a whole year has gone by. I am so proud of your family and the strength and courage they have shown in the wake of this terrible tragedy. Your picture hangs at my desk at work, and I know your passing has affected my kids in more ways than I can imagine. The realization that any of us can be taken at any moment makes us all more conscience that you must live every day as if it were your last, and remember to tell everyone important to you how much you love them. I know you are in a better place, but you certainly will always be loved and missed by your family and friends. Save a place for us in heaven, Eric. God Bless You.

Not a day goes by where I don't think about you. I wear my EB wristband every day. Sometimes when I go to town and country, i say to myself, "I wonder if Eric's working today." I miss seeing you when I'd walk in the door, and you encouraging me when I got mad. I also miss getting to strike and spare an hour before league started, and just sitting there and talking with Paige. I remember the one night we were on the phone for hours, and we recorded the conversation but you didn't know haha. Going to your wake was very hard for me. I wish I had talked to you more when I had the chance, but I was too shy. I wish I could just see you and talk to you one more time. It's still unreal to me that you're gone. Going past the crash site is really hard for me. It sucks that it had to happen to someone like you. You're a great person, and will be forever missed <3

eric,
there never is a day that does by that i do not think about you, and all that you have done to help the bowling community come together. it is horrible that your accident had to be what brought us together, but i am proud to say that we celebrate your life. i miss you so much and i cant believe how fast times goes by, i feel like every time i go into town and country you will be there at the door, waiting for me like always, with open arms and a hug. (: you will never know how much stronger you have truly made everyone you effected. or how close you have brought everyone to eachother. i have to say that your candlelight memorial at your site was one of the hardest things that i have ever had to go through. i know your looking down on all of us smiling and when that lucky pin falls, your there to give us the little extra push. you truly opened my eyes to how short life may be, and to live life to the fullest. i hope you`ll save me a game up there in heaven, for the day we meet again. <3

Every now and then I still stop by the guest book to read through the comments posted and I am always struck by how loved you are in the hearts of so many. As graduation approaches, and my family prepares for Christopher's graduation, I always feel a twinge of sadness to think that this was supposed to be YOUR time, too - leaving high school, brand new beginings for a bright future. I still think about you and your family every day, and I'm sure this must be a difficult time for them. You are very much a part of Plainfield South's Class of 2010, Eric - you led the bowling team to victory! Your memory continues to inspire and you will never be forgotten.

Happy Birthday, Eric! You get to turn 18 in Heaven. I am thinking about you and your family today, and always. Said a prayer for your mom to be strong and to know that you are at peace. Still missing your bright smile and generous ways....

Eric was always the person you could talk to and trust. He was the older brother i never had. Eric passed away on my birthday along with my dog later that night. I try to think of it as a sign that they are my guardian angels. It's way too hard to think of Eric gone... I just knew him so well and now the person i could have talked to no matter the situation, is gone. When i found out it felt unreal as if a dream. Seventeen years old, so much more he could have experienced in life. Now he may rest in peace, and to the Branders, i wish you all the best my neighbors for nine years. I hope everything works out for the best. The brother i never had, i will miss you and hopefully see you another day.
Love,
Joey

To Eric's Family,
My heartfelt sympathy to you. I had the pleasure of being Eric's first grade teacher at Bridgeview School. He was a sweet boy with a great smile. Every year I remember him when I put the angel decoration he gave me for Christmas on a table. Keith, I remember you being in my third grade class my first year of teaching. I can't imagine the pain your family is feeling. You are in my prayers.

December 25, 2009

It's early Christmas morning, and I just couldn't sleep because I keep thinking about you, Eric, and your entire family. I have been praying & talking to you a lot & I hope you are hearing my prayers & thoughts. I can't even begin to imagine how much your parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters are suffering right now from your loss; but, I do know that you are a great loss to your family, your friends, and all that came into contact with you because you were such a special person & someone that we will never forget.

You have always been a special young man; from the time you who welcomed our family to Aspen Meadows 6-1/2 years ago as we unloaded our moving truck the first day we moved in across the street from you. You weren't just a "typical neighbor kid", you were a friend to all of us right from the very start!

You befriended our daughter, Miriah, & became her boyfriend just a few months later. You were only 11 years old at the time so it only lasted a few months... "puppy love". But, she always had a special place in her heart reserved for you & we had always hoped you would someday get back together as you grew older because you were so wonderful & we loved you so much.

Every day when Jeff would come home from work he'd see you & talk to you, Eric, before even coming in to say hi to the rest of us. He couldn't wait to talk with you all the time gossiping and sharing your dreams of what you want to do to your cars next. You often helped Jeff out while injured with the snow shoveling or cutting the grass & you were a genuine friend.

You always walked across or pulled over whenever I (Alex) was driving by (even if you were with your friends; you weren't too cool to talk to your adult neighbors when you were with your buddies)... you always made me feel important to you. Sometimes, we'd talk about girls in your life (and of course I was always hoping you'd break up with them & go back to Miriah...no offense to the other girls of course... haha) but, I would listen and you would share stories with me and I felt you genuinely trusted me and respected me as I did, you.

When I close my eyes, I can see you clear as day with your beautiful smile and eyelashes fluttering with your very expressive eyes as you spoke! You were so beautiful inside & out... you were one of the kindest people I have ever known & your family was very proud of the type of person you were. You were always chipper, even if you were complaining about something, you were usually tossing something in your hands whether it be your ball, your keys or your cell phone....just very happy-go-lucky, easy-going, wonderful Eric :)

You were a part of our daily lives and we cherished our friendship with you. We will miss seeing you each & every day, Eric.

You will forever be engraved in our minds & our hearts.

We love you, Eric.

Dear Eric,
I miss you so much and not a day goes by that I don't think of you and wish I could have stopped all of this from happening. You were one of my best friends and I miss sitting at my locker in the morning with you hurrying to finish our homework. You always had a smile on and would put a smile on everyone you talked to. I'll always remember when we went bowling at Town and Country. Everyone there loved you, everyone at school loved you, and all your friends and family loved you, we all still do, it just shows how much you mean to so many people. I hope you like your Christmas present I got you.
I'll keep you in my heart forever and always.
I miss you so much
Rest in Peace, Eric.

Eric, you wouldn't believe how much I miss you. As much as it hurts, I'm trying to remember the good times we've shared, instead of only dwelling on the bad, because I know you would've wanted me to keep smiling..you always made sure I had a smile on my face. And you did that with all those silly nicknames you used to give me..but somehow, Mel Kabob was your favorite, and its mine too. You were always nice to everyone, and you didn't deserve any of this. But for some reason, God wanted you with him now. But its okay, because even though it hurts, I know you're safe. My prayers go out to your family, and my heart goes out to you, Eric. You will always be with me, and with everyone who loves you too. p.s-I really hope you love the song I wrote.
Love always,
Mel Kabob

I remember being in 7th grade meeting Eric, he was a pass runner at Drauden Point. He taught me how to do the job. There wasn't that much to it but he made it fun. Eric was a funny kid. He always knew how to make people smile. And then entering high school, as a freshman, (and Eric being a sophomore), from what I think I can remember was Eric being on the golf team. He was the nicest kid ever! I miss him soooo much. And my best memory of Eric was at golf trying a couple months ago, everytime anyone would mess up on a swing he said his favorite line, "Not My Problem." and I would laugh everytime. I miss you.

To the family: I am very sorry for your loss. I hope you can remember the positive times from Eric. Thank you for your kind words at the wake. To eric's brother: You told me never to forget Eric. I can promise you that I would never forget such a kind, funny, and smart person like him.

Rest In Peace Eric

You could make anyone laugh no matter what, and there was always a smile on your face. This loss has caused a great deal of sadness for everyone, even people who didn't know you. I wish you could see how much you meant to all of us. Look over us, and guide us in the right direction.

To the Brander family,

We are so terribly sorry for your loss. Eric was truly a remarkable person. Hopefully it gives you some sort of comfort to know how many lives Eric touched in such a positive way. I would see him frequently when he would come down to Ryan's house, and he ALWAYS said "Hi" and had some sort of small talk to share. He was such a polite and kind person, and will always be remembered.

I went to your wake today, and i broke down crying. I was going to miss your smile when you walked into gym knowing you would kick some butt in ultimate frisbee. This is not my first time losing someone close, but when I saw the pictures; I knew this was one of the things I wouldn't forget. To live on and eternity, you will always be in my heart.

Eric's family, those hugs were much needed. Thank you. Your son opened a lot of people's eyes. I wish it didn't take a death to pull us all together as one, but we did.

Rest in peace for eternity to come. Hopefully you're bowling strikes where-ever you may be.

We thought of you with love today
but that is nothing new
We thought about you yesterday
and days before that too
We think of you in silence we often speak your name
Now all we have are memories
and your picture in a frame
Your memory is our keepsake with which we'll never part

Words cannot even begin to express our deepest sympathys, you should be very proud to have raised such a fine young man. As young as 8 yrs old Eric insisted he help us shovel our snow, he was cute as a button, with great manners and already making great impressions. He was loved by many, and will be greatly missed.

To the Brander Family:

I have only known Eric for a few years, but I can truly say that he was a wonderful person. He was so spirited and cared about everyone he knew. I NEVER heard a rude remark come from his mouth. I remember first meeting him in Intro to Computer Tech my freshmen year. I had the worst typing skills in the world, but some how, Eric helped me improve. He'd take time away from his classwork to show me little tricks that would help me become a more efficient typer. I know that this may seem a little insignificant, but I just wanted you to know that even though Eric's time on earth was short lived, he has truly impacted many lives. Your son was truly well loved, and overall, he has taught me to be patient and help others.

To the family and friends of Eric Brander, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. As the mother of his last girlfriend, I truly trusted him and loved his kind spirit. He was such a polite and respectable young man, who loved to have fun. I will always remember Eric teasing Sam and listening to them laugh so hard it hurt. His classic line of "Not my problem" will forever etched in our hearts. A wonderful young man, you will be missed, but never forgotten.
