Dr. Arias was a teacher with a vital and visible passion for music and music history. He more than challenged me - he demanded that I do my best, to think thoroughly and creatively, to study and learn, and to remain committed to my musical path. He strengthened and broadened the program at Chicago Conservatory, where I was a student circa 1967-1972. It is wonderful to contemplate the important work he has done and the many lives he has touched. Dr. Arias will certainly be missed, but he has left us with a beautiful understanding of the music he loved so much.

Dr. Arias was one of my favorite teachers at Chicago Conservatory College where I was a student of his during his first few years of teaching there. A brilliant musicologist, excellent educator, and wonderful support to the caring student. His early passing is a great loss to the musical community.

As an alumni student of DePaul and Mr. Arias, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the family.

As usher co-ordinator for Ars Musica, my association with Dr. Arias has been short. However, in the time that I have known him, he has been a most gracious person, full of enthusiasm for his music. He will be missed.
