Dear Mr. & Mrs. Burke, Eddie, Jennifer, and Sarah
Time has past and as I remember the funeral service in Chicago, Emmett went forward in his passing as Emmett lived his life. Emmett, no matter what occurred in your life you loved, you cared, and you smiled. When we were young growing up on Powers Lake, you always wanted to have those friends around you. You were and are that friend that will never be gone from our hearts. When we were young Emmett always made sure to come over in the motor boat to have my father make him chocolate milk shakes. There are so many more memories in my heart, thankyou for sharing your life with me. You are never far from my heart. Your friend.

Dear Alderman Burke,Judge Anne Burke,Kathleen and all Family,
Our very deepest sympathy goes to each of you at this so difficult time. Our family was all touched, 'tho we did not know
Emmett. He sounds like he totally embraced the gift of life, and had
such love and support from his family and friends. Your comments
in his eulogy,Alderman, which
Sneed reported on, touched a deep chord in our hearts: "we return to God most painfully and grudgingly the gift of Emmett...forever a part of who we are." Having lost our youngest brother, Sgt. Phil O'Reilly, suddenly last March, we were all reminded of what a gift life is. We are grateful for your kind comments, Alderman, at the resolution for him. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. A final note: "Time moves on. Friends move on. Life moves on. Love stays."
Most Sincerely,
Ellen O'Reilly and Family

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Burke, Eddie, Jennifer and Sarah,
There are not enough words to say how sorry we are for your loss of Emmett. Known to me as the greatest barefoot skier, the guy who could always make through the barefoot line no matter how rough the water was. He will be missed by so many.

To all:
“What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.”
Emmett lived his life being a great friend to all. He loved his friends, he loved being with his friends and he was always there for his friends - with that big smile and his wicked sense of humor. Emmett made the world laugh. No matter what the situation or time, Emmett was always laid back, easy going and a happy-go-lucky guy. I can’t count the times we got ourselves into yet another situation where most of us would be thinking, “Uh oh!!” .....And then there would be Emmett….. relaxing in the corner with that big grin on his face and he’d simply say, “It’ll be fine.” And it always was.
You could never shake Emmett. He lived his life without a care in the world. Emmett was truly a happy guy with a kindred adventurous spirit. In this way he died, and in this way I will always remember him. My condolences go out to all who were fortunate enough to know Emmett as a son, brother, fiancé, relative….. and indeed, a good friend. I will truly miss my friend. May he rest in peace.

Burke Family,
My deepest sincere condolences go out to you and your family. I am very blessed to have known Emmett Burke as his roommate in Barrington, IL. It was 3 fantastic years of my life. He was a good friend and was always there for me. I remember when he and I pondered what to name his canine the day he was named to the K-9 unit. The only name we could come up with was Rizzo(as you know) from the Jerky Boys. This makes me both laugh and cry. May God always be with you and forever rest his soul.

My thoughts and prayers will always be with his Family,Kathy and his Friends.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I cannot express the anguish I felt when I heard the devastating news. Emmett and I had such a wonderful time growing up together on Powers Lake. Emmett had made a huge impact on my life. He was such a happy, kind, loving person and treated my family and me with such respect. My family and I always enjoyed Emmett’s company and he was always welcome to be with us. He was continually showing me how to live life to its fullest. Everyday was a new adventure with Emmett. On occasion Emmett would show up at 6:30AM at my house on his horse, eager to start a day of adventure. I always had the best time seeing Emmett in his true element, the water, performing all his stunts. I am so grateful that I have such wonderful memories with Emmett, and will always hold him dear to my heart. I feel very blessed to have had Emmett in my life. Emmett will be missed and he and his family will be in my prayers.
Sincerely
Donald Robison, Jr.

When I first met Emmett it was during the summer, he was a vigorous 15 year old man enjoying life to its fullest. We would run into each other as the years would pass, and I could still see that energetic young man in him. This is how I still remember him. My deepest sympathy is with the Burke family.

Mr. & Mrs. Burke, Jennifer, Eddie, Sarah and Kathleen,
I am so sorry and so sad to hear about Emmett. We had so much fun with him growing up on Powers Lake. He was always cracking jokes and was fun to be around. When we were 12 in Ziggy's boat class for getting our boat license, he would make us laugh every day. In sailing class, he was one of the only kids who knew how to sail a sailboat by himself across the lake & we could see him sailing over every day from your house. When we were on the Junior Aquanuts, he was one of the only kids who knew how to barefoot. He & I had to be square-dance partners when the junior team did the country & western Rock Ridge ski show. He actually came over across Powers Lake in his aluminum putt-putt boat to practice his routine at our house with some other kids. He also would drive over in that boat to our house to take us skiing. He was really excited the summer he got that Black Magic kneeboard. He even would let us ride it, too. When we got older, he loved barefoot line and always was on the end of line facing the crowd. You really couldn't imagine Emmett barefooting anywhere else in the line. He would even smile the whole time. He was famous to us around Powers Lake and will be very missed by all who knew him. I am so sorry for your loss. He was so much fun.

The Burke Family:
Emmett and I were friends when we were younger and I would just like to take this time to express my deepest condolences for your family.
Emmett, being a few years older than I, was a great man with a heart of gold. He was caring and compasionate when being caring and compasionate were not popular. I will always remember Emmett as the friend who helped me understand that life is not about taking, it is about giving. He taught me that the ability to make others smile is a gift and if you have it, use it. And use it he did, effortlessly.
Emmitt is loved and missed. My heart and thoughts are with you.

For the Burke Family and Kathleen,
I am looking across the lake @ your house now and can see a young Emmett putting across in his fishing boat. He was a regular summer fixture @ our house and always up for a smile and a ski run.
The memories of him learning a square dance routine for Jr. Aquanuts and his love of skiing will always be with me. He loved coming through hot dogging it in the barefoot line. Most of all he loved entertaining the crowd @ the Aquanut shows. He will always have a place in our memory of summers in Powers Lake.
