My Deepest Sympathy to the Heidkamp Family. I had heard about the family when working with Tom at HEHS. He also is greatly missed. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Betty and Carol and your families, just a note to let you know that I have been thinking about you and know that you are in my thoughts and prayer. Here is a poem that has comforted many.

God's Garden

God looked around his garden

And he found an empty place.

Then he looked down upon this earth

And saw Emil’s tired face.

He put his arms around her

And lifted him to rest.

God's garden must be beautiful

Surely he only takes the best.

He knew that Emil was suffering

He knew that he was in pain

He knew that Emil would never

Get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough

And the hills were hard to climb.

So he closed Emil's weary eyelids

And whispered "peace be thine".

It broke our hearts to loose him

But he didn't go alone

For part of us went with him

The day God called our

Beloved Emil home.

To Patricia, Dick and Don (my classmates), and the entire Heidkamp clan: Though I never knew Emil, I can only surmise that he, indeed, was a quintessential Heidkamp. My prayers for him and all of you.

My Grandpa was a great man and I'll always miss him. Here is a poem I wrote abut the last few painful days of his life.

We got a call

He wasen't well

My mother was so brave

She didn't cry or dwell

She left the house

The rest all stayed

We kneeled beside our beds

We kneeled and we prayed

5:00 my mom came home

She was sort of sad

She didn't say anything

Bad thoughts were driving me mad

I heard that he didn't speak

He had no hearing aid

But still he hummed that song

It was a love song, a serenade

Now I weep and mourn

The loss was very great

At least he knew I loved him

Before he was pronounced late

I am thanking everyone who played a part in my Dad's life and in his death. It's not everyday that someone's kid gets to look into the very soul of her Dad. I will be forever blessed that my Dad chose to share his final months on earth in such a loving and unselfish manner. I am grateful that God took him home yet I miss him ssso much. Thanks to all of you for having enriched all of our lives and especially my Mom and Dad's.

I always saw Uncle Emil as a very strong, warm and caring man. I am very glad I had the chance to see him and say goodbye at his Mass. His presence will truly be missed by all.I am glad he is at peace now.

Emil was the greatest Father-in-Law and Grandfather I could ever possibly hope for. He was caring, generous, humorous, had so many interests and was a great guy to be around. He taught me a lot about living, but he also taught me alot about dying. I will miss him greatly, but I take solace in knowing that he is reunited with so many of his loved ones and is now in the care of the Great Creator.

Peace be with you,

Rich
