Old Family Friends
May 1, 2022
Lost touch with the Carreons many years ago . Recently came across Elsies Obit . So sorry to learn of her passing. The Carreon Family were family friends of our family from back in the 60's living in Chicago. I remember her as being so nice to our family. Always friendly. Seeing her Obit brought back memories of the old days.
My condolences to Nancy, Michael and John.

Mike and family,
I was so very, very sad to learn of Elsie's passing. She was a special, special lady. When I first arrived at Henking School 20-odd years ago with little teaching experience,Tom Powers paired me with Elsie. He knewShe was the right mentor for me.She was so much more than that. Yes, she thought me the "ropes"but she thought me the intoegibles too.She was so carring and kind with the students. Her generosity of spirt filled the classroom and my heart. She became a dear friend and confidant.Altrough I haven't been back to il in a long time, distance in miles didn't overshadow my fondness for Elsie. She was an important part of molding me as a young teacher. She was a dear friend who will always remain in my heart.May the memories you and your family have, comfort you in this difficult time
With heartfelt sympathy,

My love of teaching began with only one teacher, Mrs. Carreon. I had her in third grade..one of the most inspirational years of my life. I began to have a love of science because of a crayfish unit she did with our class. My love of reading increased when she had us put paper gumballs in a gumball machine on a bulletin board to represent all the books we had read. I strived to always have the most gumballs! Later on, when I was in high school, I asked her if I could observe and help out in her classroom to fulfill a part of my teaching practicum. I fell in love with third grade all over again! She is the reason I have taught third grade for the past twenty years. I think of her often and always will. You will truly be missed!

Dear Nancy, John, Anne, Jack, Chloe and Family,
I am sorry to hear about your mom and grandma. I was one of the lucky ones to have her as my fourth grade teacher at Henking. She was by far one of the greats. She was a brilliant teacher, loving, funny and beautiful. Everything that made your mom special will live on through your memories. Praying for your healing.

One of my favorite teachers that taught me in Henking School has passed. Mrs. Carreon was an amazing teacher. When I found out today I got really mad that I never got to say thank you to her. I will be attending the services out of respect to the lady that help me overcome and accept a major life change for me. Mrs. Carreon would tell me to stop feeling sorry for myself and prove everyone wrong. I was diagnosed as being Dyslexic in the 4th grade and the way everyone acted I felt as if I had three arms. I had to leave class every day and go to another room to get my help… Which I am not going to lie totally sucked! However Mrs. Carreon took a boy that was very confused by something he didn't understand and rebuilt my confidence. Every day for two weeks or maybe it was three… Before I could go to recess with everyone else she would read me a story about some person with dyslexia and overcame it to be great. Some of the stories I remember was Walt Disney, John F. Kennedy, George Washington & Henry Ford. It got to a point that I felt sorry for the people that were not part of the new club I was in. She was an amazing teacher and I will miss her.

If roses grow in heaven
If roses grow in heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Mother's arms
and tell her they're from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
Love you Always,
Nancy, Michael and John
