To the Burack Family---I learned of Dr. Burack's passing from the Winter 2013 IIT Magazine as well as from the Spring 2013 Northwestern Magazine. I first became acquainted with Dr. Burack when I was an MBA student at Northwestern in the summer of 1966 and Dr. Burack was one of my professors. Subsequently, while I was attending NU, Dr. Burack hired me as a part-time Research Assistant at IIT in conjunction with his study of quasi-process industries. I received my MBA in June 1967. Dr. Burack was a wonderful mentor for me and he provided valued insights to me that I carried with me as my career evolved over the years! I am very sorry to have learned of his passing. I have fond memories of the time I had contact with him in 1966 -'67.
My deepest condolences to the Burack family,

Dear Ruth and family; I'd wanted to contact you by card, but could not locate an address. I was a PhD student of Dr. Burack's '91-94, and am deeply, deeply saddened by his passing. You may remember me -- dinner one night at Chiih Linh Court, Elmer's favorite, with coffee at our quarters at Fort Sheridan afterwards. Meeting Elmer in 1990 during my search for a PhD program as an Army major, he was *the* reason I chose Univ of Illinois at Chicago. We had a joyful reunion when I came back to speak at UIC in 2000, and lunch together as well. I will always owe Dr. Burack a huge, huge debt of gratitude, and think of him often. Please drop me an email if you can at [email protected], and may God's peace be upon your blessed husband.
Sincerely,
Ralph and Denise Masi, PhD '94

So sorry for your loss. I don't recall your father but if it's true that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, he must have been a fine man.

Elmer was my friend, mentor, and favorite Sage. When I met Elmer, my life was better in so many ways from that day forth. I can never thank Elmer enough for all of the ways he enriched my life. While he lived a rich and full life, I am sad because there is a hole in my life. It was nice to finally meet Ruth because they were a devoted couple and Elmer talked about how lucky he was to have Ruth and his family.
The world seems less kind, less generous, less smart, less wise without Elmer. He will be missed, but ALWAYS remembered.
Thank you Elmer.
