Dearest Madeleine,

You, your daughters, and family have my heartfelt sympathy. It seems I have known you and Ellis most of my life in Mobile and in Chicago. I shall never forget your warmth and Ellis' kindness when I first came to Chicago. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and may the eternal light shine upon his soul. Rest in peace!

Love and prayers,
Lucille Holmes Giles (classmate of Greta)

Dr. Johnson was an extremely caring person who truly cared for his patients. Notwithstanding being one of the smartest individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He loved his work almost as much as he loved his family. I will truly miss him. The world has lost one of our Black Giants.
