Elizabeth Melander Obituary

Melander, Elizabeth Ann "Judy" 73, Wife of the late Kurt Augustus Melander, Master Carpenter, passed away peacefully the morning of 18 June 2013, with her natural children Kurt, Dawn and Eric, and grand-children at her side. She is survived by an adopted son, Thomas; daughter-in-law, Phyllis; grandchildren, Adam, Benjamin, Blaine, Brandon, Jeremy, Kimberly, Ryan, Thomas and Tony; great-grandchildren, Erica, Jayden, Katherine, Logan and Vinnie and her beloved yorkie Cody. Judy, as everyone called her (she grew up having her mother call her Judith Ann her whole young life, not finding out her real name until she was about to be married), spent many years employed as an executive secretary at Overnight Trucking Company, as well as being an outstanding wife and mother. Judy was an extremely talented and creative person, devoting countless hours creating beautiful handcrafts, creating everything from simple decoupage to ornate stained glass windows, often created for others as gifts for special occasions, and turning every home she occupied into the showplace of the neighborhood. Upon the passing of her late husband Kurt, she moved into a retirement condominium community in Plainfield, where she enjoyed the companionship of many friends, particularly, Shirley, Jackie, Nydia and Cindy. She was a beautiful 16 year old debutante who married a simple Carpenter, raised a family she devoted her entire life to, and in the last years of her life, although troubled with many health issues, enjoyed her life, family and friends to the fullest extent she could. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. Visitation Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 3 8 p.m. with a service to begin 7 p.m. at the Anderson Memorial Chapel, 606 Townhall Dr. in Romeoville.
