I am saddened to hear of Betty's passing. I met her through her volunteer work at Hinsdale Hospital and on first meeting was struck by her kindness and gentleness. She always had the perfect thing to say to ease the pain of others. I will always remember the lilt of her voice as she spoke her wisdom. I can hear her ready laugh and will miss her. Peace and condolences to her family.

I was so sorry to hear about "Mrs. Lowdon". That was how we referred to her in our house. She was first grade teacher to both of my children at Concord School. From the time we received a letter right before my daughter started first grade...Dear Racquel: I will be your first grade teacher. We will have so much fun in my class. I can't wait to meet you and your family. Can you find any spelling errors in this letter? Bring it back with you the first day of school. See you soon. Mrs. Lowdon...up until last year when we saw each other at her husband's funeral, Mrs. Lowdon touched our hearts like no other teacher ever could. First off, she truly loved being a teacher and it always showed. She was so warm. I was always welcome in the classroom. My children loved her. From the Jolly Ranchers to the end of the year picnic that she would host at her home, it was a wonderful time in their lives. Then there were all the lunches in between, where she would take some of them home with her. Her and I became close friends. Everything she observed about my children and told me about their future all came true. She was a remarkable teacher. I feel like we have lost one of the "Finest". We could request teachers for upcoming grades. I never requested a teacher, other than Mrs. Lowdon. When my son, Michael, was entering first grade I asked if he could please be lucky enough to experience Mrs. Lowdon as his first grade teacher. My wish was granted. After her retirement we kept in touch with annual Christmas cards. She wrote the most beautiful cards and the children loved reading them. She seemed to be very happy in her new home with her husband after retiring. I know she was looking forward to spending time with her grandchildren. I often thought of how lucky they were to have Mrs. Lowdon for a grandma. Her retirement spent with her husband and family was pretty short lived. But we must always remember, she touched sooo many lives, had a career which she loved and now her and her husband are together. My sincere thoughts and prayers go to her family. Rest In Peace Mrs. Lowdon... you will always be remembered. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the great experience of knowing you.
