Even after the four years of his passing, I am grateful to have had Early's friendship in segments of my life. He is still brought up in conversation and remembered with great fondness and love at gatherings of our mutual friends.

Early was the first person I met when I went to a social event to sign up for bowling with the Chicago Pride League. Every Friday I’d ask, “where’s Early?” so I could buy my 50/50 tickets but mostly to just say “hi” and catch up. Last year he gave my husband one of his old bowling balls. We kept it in the car and kept meaning to have it re-drilled. Every time we took a turn we’d say, “hold on, Early!” as the ball rolled from one side of the back seat to the other. I miss him but I still say “hold on, Early” when I’m driving. Every time I hear the ball clunk to a stop I think about Early and smile.

I first met Early more than 40 years ago when he and Nick became fast friends with my mother Sandie. We had many, many laughs together, scratching instant lottery tickets, playing cards, being in Vegas together and, ultimately, Early took great care in getting me financial aid so that I could attend the Chicago College of Commerce and become a court reporter. 32 years later and I'm still reporting and had it not been for his efforts early on, no pun intended, who know where I would have ended up. His laughter, smile, friendship and loyalty will always be remembered fondly. My heartfelt condolences to your entire family over this tragic loss. I'm sure Sandie was there with open arms welcoming him into Heaven.

I worked with Early just shy of 8 years and am in disbelief that he's gone. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with him and there was much to be learned from him through his character. He was hardworking, charitable, kind, generous, a perfectionist and extremely loyal. He set an example in the office for a lot of the younger folks. He took pride in his work, appearance, his car and his cats. No secret, he had a passion for caring for and donating to PAWS and other organizations that were in support of animals. I remember his detail carrying over to his love of being a Treasurer for his bowling league. He will be sorely missed and I'm proud to have worked with him and call him a friend.

Early and I met when I was 18 years old. We became fast friends during the 1970s and bowled, camped, Canasta-ed, DISCOED, traveled, dined, joked and LAUGHED during that time. 9 years later, when Carl and I married, he stood up to our wedding and, over the years, came to our kids' birthday parties. 40 years later came over to "catch up" and visit with out-of-town friends. He was such a generous and caring friend and that lent itself to our always feeling comfortable in reconnecting despite however much time passed between seeing each other. Our love and friendship always picked up where we left off. Carl and I will miss him greatly. A 50 year friendship is our personal milestone.

Early was a great guy. I always admired his generosity and fun spirit. I do regret not having the chance to bowl with him as I heard he was pretty good. Now when it thunders, I'll think of him bowling with the Angels up in heaven. Rest in peace Early :)
