Dr. Mandel took care of my three children from birth to college. I was just thinking about him because my grandson is ailing and thought I wish we had dr. Mandel here. He was thought of often and was a wonderful person. Sandra Jurik Gilbert arizona

I was Dr. Mandel's cousin, and how I "learned of him" is a strange and interesting journey I wanted to share with whoever is seeing this. My father shared his slightly unusual first name, and when I was 5 years old (in 1972), I stumbled across his book "Dr. Talks to 5-8 Year Olds" (a book about how to teach "the facts of life" to children that age) while waiting in the pediatricians office and took note to my mom of the Dr's name.
7 1/2 years later, as I was approaching my bar mitzvah, my folks had a conversation with an aunt of mine in trying to get the addresses of certain relatives and I happened to mention in passing the book I knew of as a little kid. She mentioned the relation and gave us info to contact him. When he and his then wife Eileen responded, we invited them to my bar mitzvah. Not only did they accept, they told us that they are coming in their private plane and to meet them at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, NY. I will never forget meeting them on the runway (something I can't imagine is allowed anymore in a post-9/11 world) and his showing me all the dials, etc. of the plane. While I did not get to fly in it, I still felt like a "kid in a candy store" and will never forget that day.
It sounds like he was quite a humanitarian and I'm sure you couldn't be more proud of him. RIP!

Dr Mandel was my pediatrician from birth to young adulthood. He was an amazing, caring person. He was never too busy to see me(asthma) and even came to our house when I was really struggling. To me,Dr Mandel was a gentle giant who really cared about you. Sometimes I even enjoyed visiting the Rotunda Bldg. My condolences to his family. Mike Zidek,Tinley Park

Dr. Mandel was our family pediatrician from the time my four children were young until they graduated from college. He was a wonderful doctor and took very good care of them. He was never too busy to see a sick child. My condolences to his family.

I remember Dr. Mandel, he took care of me, as a child, and was my daughter's pediatrician until he retired. I remember him as a bear of a man with a gentle soul and a fast wit. He was truly a great man.
