Eleanor Spaulding Obituary

HANOVER, NH - Eleanor J. Spaulding, 88, formerly of Rhode Island, died Tuesday February 4, 2003 at the Hanover Terrace Healthcare Center in Hanover, NH. She was born in Pawtucket, RI November 29, 1914, a daughter of the late Robert & Sarah (Irving) Jeffrey. She was a graduate of Pawtucket High School and Bryant College. She was married to Richard Morton Spaulding and they raised their family in Hope Valley, RI later moving to Saunderstown, RI. Eleanor had been employed by the University of Rhode Island for over 20 years as a principal clerk stenographer in the Dept. of Journalism. She was an accomplished musician and cellist and had been a member of the University of Rhode Island Orchestra, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and had performed in various family trios. Mrs. Spaulding was very proud of her Scottish heritage as a member of the Klan Donald and had participated in many Scottish events with other family members.

She was pre-deceased by her husband: Richard Morton Spaulding who died Nov. 18, 1996, and by a brother Robert Jeffrey.

Survivors include a daughter: Marion S. Burchard of Hanover, NH; a son: Richard Jeffrey Spaulding of Charleston, RI; 2 sisters: Ruth Barnes and Lois Asquith both of Lincoln, RI; 5 Grandchildren; 1 Great-grandchild; and many nieces nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held Saturday morning Feb. 8th from 11 AM – Noon with Funeral Services following at Noon in the United Church of Christ (the White Church) in Hanover, NH. The Rev. Donna Cavedon will officiate. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI.
