Edwin Whipple Obituary

Edwin L. Whipple, 83, of 771 Scout Dam Road, Colver, PA, and formerly of 5300 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville, PA, died at 1:45 AM Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Miners Medical Center, Hastings, PA. Born December 12, 1926 in Mifflin, he was a son of the late Edwin L. and Rebecca Dunn Whipple. Edwin served with the US Army and US Air Force during WWII. He retired in April of 1982 from Letterkenny Army Depot after thirty five years of service. He enjoyed collecting coins and refinishing furniture. His beloved wife, Josephine Gassner Whipple, preceded him in death on May 22, 2001.
Edwin is survived by three children, Rebecca Martin of Wellsville, PA, Leroy E. Whipple and wife Ethel of Osterburg, PA, and Thursa Peck and husband Richard of Colver, PA; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beatrice Lauver of Elizabethtown, PA. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thursa Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 17, 2010 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow in Upper Strasburg Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
