M. Hernandez Obituary

After a valiant, four-year battle with cancer, M. Carmen Cavazos Hernandez, 49, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend, entered peacefully into the glory of her eternal life on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at her residence in Jacksonville, Fla., surrounded by her loving family.

Carmen was born in Brownsville, Texas, on Aug. 7, 1961, and was a resident of Brownsville until she met the love of her life, Mario, 26 years ago. They then lived in Chicago until Mario joined the Navy and moved his family to different seaports: San Diego, Calif.; Seattle, Wa; Corpus Christi, Texas; and finally Jacksonville, Fla.

Carmen will be dearly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Carmen was preceded in death by her father, Ramon Cavazos Sr.; and brother, Alfonso Cavazos.

Left to eternally treasure her memory are her husband, Mario Hernandez, and her loving children: Christopher Cavazos and his wife, Melissa, of Conway, Ark., Julia Christine, Rachel Louise, Angela Victoria and Rebekah Sophia, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; her mother, Carmen Z. Cavazos; sisters, Teresa Z. Cavazos and Irma I. Cavazos; and brothers, Ramon Cavazos Jr. and Fernando Mendez. Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Mary Hernandez; sister-in-law, Luisa, and her husband, Rick Maka; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces; and many friends.

As per her wish, her body was cremated and in celebration of her life, a private service was held on Friday, Dec. 3. Pastor Fidel Soto from Southpoint Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jacksonville, Fla., officiated at the service.

The family would like to thank everyone, relatives and friends, for all your prayers and support during this difficult time.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Valley Baptist Medical Center Chapel on 1040 West Jefferson St., Brownsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society c/o Carmen Z. Cavazos, 1678 Los Ebanos Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78520.

Carmen, I will miss you every day. I am glad I got to know you. We shared our faith, our laughter. You fought bravely and with everything you had, but you also loved the Lord, and you are with Him now. I love you Carmy. Mary (Canada)

Carmen was a very special friend whom I consider myself lucky to have known for close to two years. I miss her humor and enjoyment of life. My thoughts go out to her family, whom she loved very much.
