Edmond Confino Obituary

Confino, Edmond

Edmond Confino MD, Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University, passed away after a long illness on May 25, 2023 at the age of 71. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Maryann Hayes, and his two adult sons, Rafael and Cary.

Dr. Confino was an international authority on infertility and one of the most skilled infertility specialists in the region. He was regarded as an exceptional clinical teacher of students, residents and fellows. He authored or coauthored over 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as numerous book chapters, and was an internationally recognized authority on techniques for the non-invasive treatment of fallopian tube occlusion in women seeking to become pregnant.

Dr. Confino was born in Sofia, Bulgaria to physicians Emilia Grabvoska and Rafael Confino. The family emigrated to Israel in 1952, where his parents served as the only physicians in Eilat in southern Israel. He is survived by his brother Dr. Alex Confino, who resides near Venice, Italy with his partner Laura Vio.

He received his MD degree from the Sackler School of Medicine of Tel Aviv University in 1977 and completed residency training in 1983 at the same institution. He served as a medic in the Israeli military for five years. After completing a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Rush Medical College in 1993, he joined the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Northwestern, where he practiced until his retirement in 2018. Since then, he continued his teaching activities as an Emeritus Professor. Shortly before his retirement, an endowed chair was established in his name to honor his achievements and contributions.

His clinical partner of many years, Ralph R. Kazer, MD, said: "The perfect infertility doctor possesses three attributes: the empathy of Mother Teresa, the wisdom of Solomon, and the hands of a safecracker. Eddie Confino possessed all three." His family and friends will be forever grateful for the joy he brought to life, his great humor, positivity, generosity, kindness, and love.

Eddie's life will be celebrated privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741, or electronically at: https://give.michaeljfox.org/give/421686/#!/donation/checkout

I've just learned of Dr. Confino's passing. My thoughts are with his family. I met Dr. Confino in the late 1990's and because of him I was able to have a wonderful family.

I am just learning of Dr. Confino's passing and I'm sending my condolences and love to his family. As so many others have also said, I would not have my family without Dr. Confino's dedication, talent, sense of humor, and problem-solving over 9 years. Just as one of the many write ups said, I remember him calling me on the phone to talk through things and using funny metaphors to help me understand the complexity of the situation. His life was a gift to so many.

I was privileged to have been a patient of Dr. Edmund Confino . His compassion, dedication and determination were an enormous comfort in the most stressful time of my life.
I’m so grateful for his care and know no one could have done more , or cared more .
I’m so sorry to hear of his passing , and send very heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues . He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy and extended family of children born to loving parents who without his extraordinary care may never have been born. So many blessings.

Without Dr. Confino's wonderful talents, I would not have my three wonderful children. He was willing to work to save my life and provide every chance to build a family. My family and I will be forever grateful. May his repose be blessed in every way.

I had worked closely with Dr. Kaser, and Dr. Confino for 8 years., as the Northwestern IVF coordinator. I totally agree with Dr. Kaser of the 3 most important qualities of a reproductive endocrinologist; and Dr. Confino manifested those 3 important every day at Northwestern. I was very fortunate to have spoken with Dr.Confino about 2 years ago. First thing he said to me was; he never really wanted to retire. I don't think he had any other passions, outside IVF/ RE MD. 1 of our docs enjoyed Scuba Diving, another Doc had his pilot's license, another travelled to all these exotic places.I want to share more memories of this remarkable, man, doctor, friend. I'm gonna have wait, until my tears stop falling. Teresa Triplett RN

Without Dr. Confino´s God-given gifts, I would not have my son, Larkin. Dr. Confino would not give up on me and was as kind as family. I loved that man and think of his grace and confidence so often. He is with God now.

My condolences to the Confino Family. Dr Confino was my doctor many years ago. While going through treatment he was more than a doctor to me; he became part of my "mishpucha". May he rest in "shalom".
