TINIKA DRAPER

April 12, 2021

It's been 14 years since I lost my mom physically. I know she isn't in pain and doesn't have to deal with the stressors of life, but she has missed so much. Her grandkids, the first black President, and me as a mom to name a few things... I imagine what her life would be like now. I think she would love being a grandma and living the good life in Florida, which was her favorite place to vacation - so ironic some of her besties are living there now. We are doing OK, but never can help wondering what would be if she were here on earth. Keep your loved ones close and stay prayed up. Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope.

To the Family, my deepest sympathy goes out to each and everyone of you especially you, Tinika. Dorothy and I called her my "God-Mother." Coincidentally, I met her at Allstate and found out that she was friends with my mom and aunts when they were younger and her sister Ann was married to one of my great uncles. Dorothy has always looked out for me. She always called to check on me and my family. I will miss her sooooo much and I will keep the family in my prayers. Dorothy, until we meet again, I love you and I miss you already.

Hey Tinika, Its Rachel. I love you so so much and I can't began to imagine how you must feel. I still see Ms. Dorothy telling mama how good she (Dorothy) looked and felt at Marcel's birthday party. I always will remember her smile and her humor. She was kind-hearted successful and a God fearing woman. I thought that my mom and I where the only ones who where more like sisters than mother and daughter but you and Dorothy proved me wrong. I want you to know that I always thought of you as the big sister I never had and I appreciate all the wisdom you have passed along. I love you and Im here and just as always at night you're in my prayers.

I express my deepest condolences and my prayers are with you. I loved Mother Dorothy like she was my mother. From the first time I met her (1993) she always made me feel like one her own. Her smile and laughter would brighten the entire room. She made sure that we always knew who our true friends were and I am thankful for that. Whenever you need me don't hesitate to call. Know that God has not left you and He is right here helping you through this time.

"Mother Dorothy" is what I called her fondly. She was a wonderful second mother who was everyone's friend and confidant. She was the one person that you could call for good sound advice with no filling. She taught all of her girls that being independent, educated and and being a HOMEOWNER were goals you would acheive as long as she had anything to do with it.:) I will miss her calls saying " Hey Honey Bunny" and above all her smile. She brought so much into so many lives that I can't even be mad that God wanted her back. She asked me to be there for her Baby Niki and I wouldn't have it any other way. Will miss her dearly.

It was both an honor and a pleasure to have known someone of such strength of personality and character. Anyone who met Dorothy more than once would know that from the second time you met her that she would consider you her friend and that you could not help but feel the same in return. The great sorrow and loss felt by Tinika and her family, our family and all of Dorothy's relatives and friends in her passing is but a testament to what she has meant to all of us. We are blessed to have known her and we are thankful for the continued blessing of knowing that Tinika and her family will continue to embody the kindness, charity and love that was Dorothy. We know that Dorothy was and is extremely proud of you Tinika, as are we.

May God Continue to Bless You and Your Family.

Love,

Dear Tinika,
I knew your mother for many years. She always had a brilliant smile and always talked about her "Niki".
Your mom was very strong in her faith and she is now in a better place with no more suffering. I will pray very hard for you and your family to get through this tough time. She was so loved and respected by many. What a beautiful person we lost here, however, God has bigger and better plans for her.
Take care and be strong.

T:
You already know how much I love you and how much I love mom. From our first meeting at KSU, you and mom both embraced me as family. You became my big sister (Miss KSU's for life) and she, another mother. She knew my need for a mother and whenever I was in her presence, she loved on me completely, as if I were her child. I know that she's at peace now because she's free from suffering. Though she asked both you and I "am I fighting good?", and she did fight good, God could not heal her on this earth, so I now rejoice that she suffers no more; she's with her maker, her daddy, our GOD. I know that she's very proud of you and when Taylor is born, she will be there. Mom is resting, but her grace, style and divaness resides in you and when you give birth, those same characteristics will be passed on to your daughter. I love you very much, today and always.

Tinkia,
I want to express my deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. Moving from MD to Chicago she welcomed me into her house as a long lost son. I will never forget all our conversations at Allstate. She gave me life guidance and to always follow my dreams. You and your family are in my prayers. Please take care of yourself during this time of bereavement.

Tinika,
Your mother will surely be missed. Little did she know the joy she
brougt to my family by assisting me with the purchase of my first
home. What I appreciated most about Dorothy is that she always
told it like it was. She was passionate about her work, proud to be your mother, and always willing to give or share her wisdom with others. One day I will remove her picture calendar from my refrigerator, but for right now her picture will continue to keep me company in my kitchen for just a little while longer. May God bless you and keep you in his
arms as you go through this difficut time in your life. We both know
that she is in heaven smiling down on us all.

My Dorothy, My Friend
I see your smile, I hear that voice, full of joy and energy and I
am reminded that I was lucky. We had a wonderful friendship that just worked. No effort. No pretense. We got each other.
I feel you with me. We've shared some struggles and I know I've got an angel speaking for me.
Those around you know you have always been a giving person, you have always cared, even when it was not in your best interest, and you have always sought to help someone in need. Your legacy of caring is a gift you left,"to strive to make life better for someone else, without condition".
I am blessed to have been able to share our conversations, dinners, and travels. I carry you in my heart. Because of you, I smile, remembering you. I love you.
(as do maurice and missy too)

Mother Dorothy has touched my life in so many ways. She made sure I completed college; she made sure I understood the meaning of chores (smile); she made sure I knew the meaning of work; she made sure we went on summer vacations; and she made sure I knew who the man upstairs is. I'm thankful that she welcomed me into her home as her own. Dorothy, I love you and will always have you in my heart. Thank you for everything that you have taught me, as well as shown me. Tasha

Greetings! I would like to welcome you at this time to please sign my mom's guest book and even add pictures if you have some. If she touched you in any way or had an impact on your life, say it... It's ok. She is my mom and I love her. I know she isn't physically here, but she lives in my heart, soul, and within all of me. I want to ask why, but God knows best. She is in heaven and I will see her again some day. Thanks to everyone for your phone calls, help, and support. I appreciate everything you've done. The services are on Saturday. I hope to see you there.
Thanks,
Tinika Morae' Draper

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
