Dolores Hofmann Obituary

Hofmann, Dolores Died peacefully teaching us all what it means to live and die with simplicity and a healthy dose of sarcasm. Dolores attended Marshall High School graduating in 1948. After raising her children, Marcia (Dave) Kornblith and Karen (Jim) McFadden, she began her career at NBC. During that time, she returned to school and received her bachelor's degree from Mundelein College . She was the type of mother who did her household chores in the morning so that she could take her children to Albion Avenue beach every summer afternoon. Her starring role was that of Bubbie to Emily McFadden, Kevin McFadden, Aaron (Lucy) Kornblith and Noah (Erica) Kornblith. She recently acquired the title of Great Bubbie to Judah Kornblith. She taught her grandchildren to appreciate the French Impressionists. She gladly tooled around the city in her "Bubbiemobile" taking her grandchildren to the zoo, miniature golfing and the Peggy Norbert Nature Museum. A visit to an Italian diner, Jewish deli, or hot dog emporium often concluded the adventure. She will be missed by her son-in-law, Jim McFadden who loved going out to dinner with her so that he would have a dessert companion at the table. She is leaving behind her sister, Ruth (Arnold) Katz and her cousin, Marilynne Irgang. The three shared their lives as only close friends do. They were blessed. They had each other. She is preceded in death by her mother, (and another fabulous Bubbie) Ida Karlin; her father, (a terrific Zadie) Benjamin Karlin and her brother, Phil (Syrna) Karlin. Dolores requested that no funeral be held. She will be cremated and her final wishes will be executed by her granddaughter, Emily McFadden. What a loving tribute to a lovely woman. We have many fond memories of Dolores and our mother Blossom, great friends for so many years. We'd like to think that they're "catching up" right now, sharing stories of their families. Know that our family is thinking of your family during this difficult time.

What a lovely obituary, perfectly fitting a lovely woman. I had the privilege of being one of her nurses in these final days, and I am glad to have known her. May your happy memories help you through these difficult times.
Very Sincerely,

I really enjoyed knowing Dolores and briefly working with her many years ago. She had such a good soul and I so appreciate how thoughtful she was when my daughter was born. She hadn't seen me for many years but still got her some nice gifts that we greatly appreciated. You have my deepest condolences, and I wish all of you peace and healing. I will remember her for her kindness and her wit most of all.

Dear Marcia and Karen,

Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. You were my first downstairs neighbors on Maplewood (my grandparents are the late Mary and Bernie Lurie) and your mother was a wonderful woman who we kept in touch with as best as we could throughout the years. I last saw her at my mother, Terri's, 50th surprise birthday party--twenty years ago next month! May her memory be a blessing and her life a celebration. I will remember her with fondness and admiration.
