Dear Mr. & Mrs. Newland and Family:

I was so saddened to hear of your unexpected loss. While I didn't know David well, I do know Jeff and was afforded the pleasure of meeting the Newland family through the Barkleys and Rivermont on various occasions through the years. You may recall that Liz (Barkley Bartling) and I used to see you at Santa Fe Grille and always loved to hear the latest on all the "Newland boys." Please know that you all will be in my thoughts and prayers as you endure this difficult time.

With sympathy,

Vivian Heard

David,

I am going to try this again because my entry from Jacksonville bounced back. We are still thinking of you and miss you....I guess we always will. You have made such an impression on so many people....you always had a big heart and made people feel like one of the gang. I'll never forget how you have always had your heart opened to me and my family. One special event comes to mind...one rough Christmas 1988 where you made an added guest feel welcome. I know you probably remember...I hope that you knew what you meant to people and the differece you made in their lives. Judging by the other entries in this guest book, we are not alone. We all love you, and we all miss you, and we all have special memories because of the difference you made.

Take care and let everyone up there know that we are okay and so much better for having you part of our lives.

Your sister-in-law,

Tonia

Where do I begin..somebody who meant so many things to me--a special, loving man that I'll never forget. Always trying to please everybody and gain acceptance. You have it all now--I'm glad you can now know how much you've touched all of our lives and how truly loved you are now and forever. You will always live on within Billy, Jeff and Johnny who are reminders of what a terrific person you are. You'll always be young, you'll always be beautiful and you'll always be in my heart.

Hey, what are ya doin? Well, it doesn't seem like a month has passed since you went away...yet, it seems like 39 1/2 wonderful years of very fond memories have passed so quickly...in fact, much too quick, Some tears, laughs, a few shakes of the head, you have indeed son, left a legacy to be remembered and cherished by us all. On our last golf outing I told you how proud your Mother and I were of you and your accomplishments, but most of all, David, we are so very thankful and proud for you just being you. Oh, before I forget, I was up early this morning and finished cleaning off the restoration oil from the sleeves of your letter jacket. It really looks great...just like brand new. Now, getting it back up there to you, that's a bit tricky, but I am working on it. Don't laugh, miracles do happen you know. Well got to go, Luv'ya baby and sure do miss you something terrible, Dad

I was so sorry and saddened to read about the loss of Dave. My daughter, Billie Lynn Shacklett Been, went to Milton with Dave and Jeff. She always said they were such polite boys. I can honestly say that I know what you are going through. Little Billie passed away at age 39 on June 11 of this year. My heart aches for each of your family and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. May God give you all the strength you need as you endure this time of emptiness.
