Daniel Winograd Obituary

Winograd, Daniel J. Age 97 on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, after a brief illness. Born November 25, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Hyman Winograd and Bessie Winograd (Solomon), "Buddy" was a graduate of the University of Chicago. He earned a Bronze Star for his service in the U.S. Army infantry in the European theater of World War II, and in 2017 was awarded the Legion of Honor by the government of France for his service. Owner of the Roseland Music Shop in Chicago and a longtime resident of Chicago, he was active in civic and philanthropic organizations. Moved to Reston, Virginia in 1995. A talented writer, humorist and perennial punster, he was married for 65 years to the late Orah Winograd (Matityahu). Brother of the late Goldene Shaw. Survived by his children, Gill, Joel, and Shelley Ann Aoki; nephew, Garry Shaw; niece, Barbara Cohen; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Services to be announced at a later date; arrangements under the direction of Jefferson Funeral Chapel, Alexandria, VA. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the American Civil Liberties Union.
