Chuck Phipps, age 78, a resident of Oswego, IL, passed away on April 20, 2021 at his home. He was born on January 5, 1943 in Chicago, IL. Chuck is survived by his lifelong sweetheart and beloved wife of 54 years, Diane Phipps; his loving children, Walter (Angie) Phipps and Kimberly Phipps (David Lorek); his cherished grandchildren, Brandon Phipps, Aidan Phipps and Evan Lorek; his dear sister, Roseann (the late Kermit) Call; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Mestauskas and Carolyn Freund and brother-in-law, Marvin Wurster; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends and his beloved dog, Baby. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lena Phipps and his grandparents, William and Mary Phipps. Chuck proudly served in the Army National Guard for four years. He started his career at General Motors Acceptance Corp. (GMAC) as a Repossession Man. He quickly moved up to ranks to Supervisor of Loans and Leasing. Over the years at GMAC he received numerous awards and recognitions. He retired from GMAC after 30 years. During his early working years, Chuck also dedicated 20 years as a Night-Lead for the Orland Park School District. His retirement did not last long and Chuck decided to re-enter the workforce as a Loan Officer in the Consumer Lending Division of 5/3 Bank. It didn't take long before Chuck was earning awards again. He received the President's Award in 2002 and 2005, as well as Top Performer several times. He decided to semi-retire by taking a part-time position at Enterprise. Chuck was always passionate about cars. Since his high school years he was always building race cars and drag racing. As he got older he had numerous cars, especially his favorite 1967 Stingray. He also enjoyed weekends aboard his 30' Rinker on Fox Lake. He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. Many weekends were spent on trips to special places or fishing in the pond behind his home. Chuck will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield.
