Christy Berkos Obituary

Wish I would have added my thoughts earlier, however, since Christy is often in my mind, I will add them now.

My dad was Bill Coughlin, Rita's cousin. Bill and Chris really got along especially at holidays and family gatherings. As a young child at a Christmas party at his home I was told not to touch ANYTHING. But, there it was, a color TV, the first I ever saw, with the first remote I ever saw, anywhere. I was told not to touch it. Christy came over, handed me the remote and said have fun, watch whatever you want. My dad too was a Navy Veteran in WWII and went to college on the GI Bill. In 1970 my dad went to work as a Criminal Investigator for the IRS. A few very interesting discussions with those two men. Their bond grew.


My dad loved and respected Christy Berkos for many reasons. Integrity, his amiable personality, hard working nice guy.


Miss those days, people, but we have their memory to inspire and guide us.

condolences to you,John,and the entire Berkos family. It's ironic,I was telling my Mom about your fathers' passing as she was in hospice at my sisters house in Darien. She passed on May 18,thanks for your message in her guest book.It was 1 of 2. I always admired your father,he had more class than anyone we grew up with.He sponsored me every year for my various
jobs with the Cicero(actualy Clyde)Park District.I was always in awe of him and used to compare your Mom to
Jackie O. They were too classy for Cicero, but so down to earth. I was proud to live on 61st Court in Boulevard Manor,just like the Berkos

I had the great honor of working as a young prosecutor in Judge Berkos courtroom at 26th & California for two years. He was simply the nicest and most gracious man I have ever met. I especially remember the nights having a drink with him at Jeans while we waited for a jury to come back with a verdict. What a great human being and judge. I never knew anyone who did not like him or love to be in his presence. May God Bless him and his family.

Having met Jg. Berkos many years ago in Cicero, I can tell you that his legal intelligence, zest for justice and his wit remain indelibly etched. Jg. Berkos will certainly be missed. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
