Charles Weiss Obituary

Weiss, Charles age 90, of Springfield, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed Monday, April 8, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center, in Springfield, IL, born August 19, 1911, in Russia, son of the late Morris and Faiga Weiss, husband of the late Molly Brody. father of Barry (Sandra) Weiss of Springfield, IL, and Sandra (Sheldon) Sagan of Riverwoods, IL, grandfather of six grandchildren and great- grandfather of four, brother of the late Rose and Eva, Harry, Bill and Sam. Mr. Weiss was self employed as an Auctioner and a member of Temple Israel. He was a Navy Veteran and survived the sinking of USS Calhoun off the coast of IWO Jima on April 6, 1944. Memorial service 11 a.m., Thursday, at Temple Israel, 1140 W. Governor, Springfield, IL. Graveside service 12 p.m., on Friday, at Westlawn Cemetery, Chicago, Rabbi Barry Marks officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to S.I.U. School of Medicine Dept of Family Practice or Temple Israel, Rabbis Discretionary Fund. Arrangements by: Bisch & Son Funeral Home. I was so sorry to read about Uncle Charlie in the paper. I guess this is the final chapter in the Weiss saga. I'm really sorry, but I have some fond memories of him. Hope you are all well. Harlene Binstock (Weiss)
