Charles Mohr Obituary

CHARLES "CHARLIE" HERBERT MOHR, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday August 17, 2004. He graduated from Hardin Simmons University with a B.A. degree in music and was a member o the World Famous Cowboy Band. Charlie was a member of the Naval Reserves while in college and then went on active duty upon graduation as a sonarman. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He returned to Hardin Simmons and earned a B.S. degree in geology. While earning his degree, Charlie was the Band Director at North Junior High School in Abilene. For the next 40 years, he worked and traveled in the oil industry. Charlie was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and also a member of St. Johns Presbyterian Church. He was extremely active as a 50 year Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. An Active member of Arabia Shrine Center in Houston, he served as Chief of Staff, Past President of the Greeters, Member of the Imperial Donor Relations Committee for the Shriner Hospital for Children and member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 136. A Texas native, Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Orene Conaway Mohr. He is also survived by his brother Henry Mohr of Andrews, Tx., two sisters: Josephine Bright and Louise Mohr of Abilene, Tx. and one brother in law and best friend Austin Jones of Houston. He is also survived by thirteen nieces and nephews and many friends. Friends are invited for a visitation and celebration of his life from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Thursday evening, August 19, 2004 at Earthman Hunters Creek Chapel, 8303 Katy Freeway. The Arabia Shrine Greeters will serve as Honor Guards. There will be a Graveside Service 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the Elmwood Memorial Cemetery located at 5750 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Tx. The graveside service will be under the auspices of John Sayles Masonic Lodge #1408. Honorary pallbearers will be two of Charlie's longtime friends, Wayne Beard and Jerry Gantt of Houston. Pallbearers will be nephews Louis Ross Bright, Mark Mohr, Charles O. Mohr and Wayne Maples. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the cause for which he worked so hard, Shriners Hospitals for Children at 6977 Main Street, Houston, Tx. 77030-3701
